| Barack Obama is plainly inconsistent. On the day he announced his candidacy one of the things he said and I quote "We have to move beyond the racially divisive politics of the past" and yet just a few weeks ago in reacting to John McCain having said a number of times that he is the underdog in the race, Obama said "If there is an underdog in this race then it is ME". Funny. I thought Obama wanted to get beyond race. |

Really, was he referring to race?
This will be my last comment on this thread....as I don't want to be shot down because of my comments. |

Really, was he referring to race? | That is EXACTLY what he was referring to.....because he said nothing more beyond that short remark. |

I don't really care what he said. He is running for political office. Politicians always shoot off their opinions to anyone willing to listen.
If you like to argue the point of what Obama said, go to one of his sites and post a complaint there.

Not every comment is about race, being the underdog could mean your from the party that is not in power, it could mean that being a relative new commer compared to McCain he is less known, it could mean he is from a lower socioeconomical back ground, there are many things he could have meant.
There is always a fight for politicians to be seen as the under dog, mainly because people love to see the little guy catch up and win against all odds. In every political campaign you will see the jocky for the underdog status.
In this race I tend to think the candidates are pretty even on pro's and cons. |

Maybe but thats the great thing about the right to vote, people get to chose on their preception of things and not alwys some one elses. Everyone will vote for reasons that they themselves will know.
People tend to be hanging on every word, every action and every decision Obama makes, while it is true he gets far more media coverage, he also seems to get far more media scrutiny.
Obama and McCain both have one thing in common, they are both good men dedicated to what they believe is best for their country. It takes an amazing person to want to be President, its not an easy task.
To reduce this huge and dedicated effort to a few sound bites is just not fair on anyone running for office but it is a fact of life, Obama for example will not state the Surge was a success in those words because within 24 hours it would appear in a McCain advert. McCain will also be very careful when he discusses his timetable for withdrawl from Iraq never to make the 100 year statement again.
Anyway welcome to the discussion everyone lets please try and keep it on topic and not a party political platform this dscussion has been very constructive nad enjoyable, lets keep it that way |

Yes I spent the weekend in the snow having a great time, the Aussie ski season is going well with a good deep base.
On the election, the adverts that McCain has made are well produced but he needs to move his focus away from Obama and more to what he has to offer, while he says Obama is an unknown he is also largely untested, there is a big difference between being a Senitor and a leader.
Its funny that he chose to use Hilton in the add, considering the Hiltons were big donors and really were not impressed with the implication of the add re Paris.
Reading all the reports on the net and watching Fox and CNN the election campaign seems to be in limbo waiting for the conventions. Everyone seems to be creating news from the smallest of issues as there is little new news out there. Of course the Candidates need this to happen so they get momentum out of the Convention itself.
Obama is taking time out to visit his Grandmother, I bet she is one very proud lady.. |
