On Obama it is interesting how he is traveling to Iraq pre announced and with significant warning, most visitors turn up unannounced for security reasons, will make his visit a lot harder to police. I wonder however if he is viewed as the enemy or as a chance of hope. Guess we will see next week. |
ASB, what you're going to see is all 3 major networks (ABC, CBS and NBC) and their lead anchors fawn all over the "talks" that Obama will have with the various leaders. Various shots of him sitting there listening with a concerned look on his face and nodding his head in "total understanding". Basically, it will be an opportunity for them to turn a "newscast" into an all out ad campaign for him.
The ONLY reason he's doing this is because John McCain called him out when McCain invited him to go along on one of his visits.
Pathetic. |

great photo.
We were in Hong Kong for the "hand over" and watched the Chinese troops roll across the boarder at midnight. In the morning we looked out our hotel room to find troops carrying automatic weapons posted across from our hotel.
What a cutlure shock. |

It seems by the election that both McCain and Obama will have the same policy on Iraq. Every time McCain speaks the planned withdrawl gets closer and Obama has changed from discussing a withdrawl to a Drawdown. Both are now talking significant reductions by the midway point of their first term.
The Health Policies are interesting, The Obama one is almost identical to the Australian Medicare System introduced here over 20 years ago. It is one of the better Universal health models and it addresses most of the needs individuals will have no matter their demographic status.

McCains one is good but sounds complex and it leaves out many people. It is hard to find a similar program anywhere to see how well it could work. |

Well the tour McCain dared Obama to do is almost over and do you think McCain is regretting ever opening his mouth and putting the countdown of days since Obama was last in Iraq on his web site.
The funniest thing I saw on TV this week was a report that showed Obama getting out of one of those aircraft that look like they have two helicopter engines and take off vertical and McCain in a golf cart.
I don't know about you but I think McCain is looking tired already. His campaign certainly is not hitting the mark. Early days yet but considering how long he had to get ready compared to Obama who had to fight a longer Primary, he hasent done much.
McCain is right about the surge but he won't get traction there because its already old news and many will just see the success as an indication the forces were just under resourced for the five years prior to that. |

It looks like Obama's overseas jaunt has cost him some popularity in the US. Perhaps people in the US feel he isn't going to focus enough on domestic issues? I saw his speech in Berlin, which would have been good if he was running for office there.........
Anyway, looks like the candidates are pretty even at this point. I think they should mud wrestle. No, on second thought, maybe not........
I wasn't pleased with McCain's faux paux regarding sending cigarettes to Iran. Tacky. |

I usually vote green, but this year, I'm thinking of voting yellow. Yep, Spongebob and Bill use to love to just kick back together, and enjoy a good cigar. |

I loved the comparison of Obama in Germany and McCain in the shop when the girl on the loud speaker drowned him out.
One thing McCain needs to do is control that anger of his, when the shop thing happened he looked like he was going to explode. He also ignors the media way to much, you see him get into cars or walk through crowds and not acknowledge anyone, Obama gives a smile and a wave, that goes a long way.
Obama did one thing no one has done for the US in a long time, he is a political figue that is genuinely liked, something that is not a bad thing at the moment, the US needs a hug |

Paul,
I think that problem went away when certain posters stopped posting.
