This is for the next time you are shooting Shatner Vision with fan questions. I wanted to write it down while I was thinking about it.
When Boston Legal is shown in other countries, are there other actors who dub in the voices for the language of that particular country or does Bill and the others run the lines phonetically in those languages? or do the shows simply show sub-titles?
I have actually heard of shows done any one of the three ways.
I remember a special on tv one time of how they did shows around the world. It was really funny to see a clip from Bonanza with Ben Cartwright speaking Japanese (of course it was a Japanese voice over). |

| I will ask, but I don't know if Bill really will know what happens with translated versions. I don't think the actors run the lines phonetically. |

May I help out with regard to Germany? In Germany, all programs are shown dubbed in German. Bill's dubbing actor is Hartmut Neugebauer, who is also director of synchronization and dialogue for BL. He is also dubbing actor for Gene Hackman, John Goodman, and Robbie Coltrane, just to name a few.
So, if you live in Germany, and still want to enjoy BL and Bill in the original, you have to buy the DVDs. |

| There's actually not that many countries that dub movies/tv shows. Germany, Russia, France, Italy or Spain come to mind. But most show things with subtitles and I honestly can't recall any time an actor has dubbed themselves by just "speaking" another language phonetically. At least semi-recently. Quite frankly, the results would be rather horrible and wouldn't fly. |

That is all very interesting. I recall reading a book about Elvis. He did sometimes record songs in another languages, but I guess that is a whole different venue.
I somehow can't imagine watching movies like Star Wars without hearing that distinctive voice of James Earl Jones, and I especially can not imagine watching Boston Legal or any of the STs without hear Bill's distinctive voice. |

In Turkey, when using CABLE, everything is dubbed. When using SATELITE TV, you can choose between the original language or the Turkish language. So, having sat. TV, I see Boston Legal in English. And thank God for that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
