average weekly wage here (Australia) is $1100

My grandson earned $12 an hour at woolworth food store at 16 he is now 18 and in the work force filling in untill maybe he goes into the Air force

he earns $12 an hour at a pallet making factory.

As a senior pensioner I earn $1100 every 28 days. we are indexed at a quarter of the average wage.

So I think we can afford the extra for petrol.

we do get indexed wage rises twice a year.

I know though our cost of living prices are higher than the US

My Daughter is married to an american man.
and they find it tough. he earns the same as me at his "managers job"!!!

It is tough for those struggling when basic items like petrol and grains go up.

Well with 100 new pence equalling a pound, and the pound equalling 1.98USD, you're only paying slightly more than $2USD per liter but it takes 3.78 liters to make a gallon so 3.78 x $2 = $7.56USD Shocked

Well, face it Daisy, you need those financial adjustments just to keep up with Wallabe fencing requirements. Laughing

Our work had to start a gas account. B/c we have to travel all over (around 3,000 miles per month!) and we couldn't do it otherwise.

Even though I don't do nearly that amount of traveling (only about 1,500 per month). Without it, I wouldn't be able to work my job. Well, my main job, I have lots of "jobs" and some of them are more stationary, thank goodness!

Gas is about $3.40 here. Not awful, but working towards it. Min wage, however, is $5.25.... Confused
3% inflation my rear end! Evil or Very Mad

The minimum wage for Washington is currently $8.07 per hour for workers over 16, and $6.86 per hour for those under 16. This wage took effect on January 1, 2008. Before that, Washington's minimum wage was $7.93 per hour. Washington has the highest minimum wage rate of anywhere in the US.

So we don't do the federal wage then? I was just looking at the gov't poster in the restroom at work today. That's good news then.

When I started working a couple years ago (literally, 3yrs). I think it was somewhere around 7.25 you could expect. I started at around 8.50 with my college degree.

The highest paying job that was reasonable to land started at 10/hr.

You can really only survive 10/hr over here if you have two people working. An old friend of mine has to roomate with another friend so they can pay rent. Shocked

Shocked Shocked Shocked Wash.'s minimum wage equals Okla.'s average above miminum wage salery! Lord help us over here if it climbs that high! Our higher saleries had better hike up if that ever happens. My husband makes darn good money and I've a part time job but it's still a struggle every week. I was just thinking about that today as I was making the kids lunches. I'm making lunches every morning and the same stuff for supper every week to make ends meet. Something's got to give! Either the cost of living, the gas prices, or my sanity....I'm voting on my sanity first Cool

We've got one kiddo and we do Costco shopping to make ends meet here. It allows for a greater variety of food, but at low prices comparatively. Of course, fresh fruit and veggies are in pretty short supply here.

Once we're able to get a house that should change though..

There are "temperature" maps of gasoline prices at GasBuddy.com, for the US (dollars/gallon) and Canada (cents/litre).

For currency conversions, there's the XE.com Universal Currency Converter.

For litre <-> gallon conversions, there's ConvertUnits.com.

Hi Cuzsis! Wal-Mart, Wal-Mart, Wal-Mart for us! Bleh! I hate Wal-Mart. When we first moved to this town 20yrs ago, the Wal-Mart was just a little store almost like a Dollar General. And then the Super Center came...I miss when this town was small. Anyhoo, times have always been tight for us. I even had to resort to what my mom calls "barbarism" when it came to feeding my daughter when she was born because we couldn't afford the formula and so we could afford disposable diapers. My husband vetoed the cloth ones I'd used with my son because he said the most revolting smell in the world was dirty diapers being washed and a pot of beans on the stove! Laughing Laughing Laughing

$6.00 a gallon? Wow we should be thankful it's not that high here!

I had to buy petrol this morning. The normal 95 petrol.
And noticed that I made a calculation error yesterday. Probably a currency conversion error. Sorry.
The price I paid was 4,24 USD/US Gallon. So, about the same as what you pay in the US.

I saw $3.05 here the other day. I filled up a few days before that at $3.14/gallon. That was for the low-grade stuff.
