| They haven't always "touted peace", they just didn't want to join in the Iraq War and time has proved them right. I hope this is just posturing by Sarkozy but I must say I am disappointed in Kouchner. |

I'll give you a nod about France not always "touting" peace. Especially the way they fought to keep from being steamrolled during WWII and all the nuclear testing on those little islands in the Pacific. But the writing is on the wall and it doesn't matter who we're disappointed in the West or what we would like or not like to have done. Maybe we should be more disappointed in the people who are ignoring sanctions and scaring other countries that did resist war at one time or the other. Maybe that's who we should really be disappointed in.

| Interestingly it was the US and Britain who, while appeasing Hitler, negotiated the reduction of the French Army. So to turn round and then blame the French is a bit ripe. |

That's an interesting take on WWII. I've never heard of that information before. Of course, I've not had a history course in 21 yrs. Please elaborate what you've said. I'm curious as to why the US and Britain would sacrifice France like that. Why? Hate to say this but wouldn't France have been a buffer to keep Germany away from Britain for as long as possible before the Blitzkreige? It doesn't make sense to thin out troops that way.  |

I'd read that GB had tried to appease Hitler, but I hadn't heard anything about the US being involved. I'd like to see some articles or proven history related to that myself, Angel.  |

Maybe it's only in history books in GB. History is selective. It all depends on who's writing it. I'd certainly hate to see what Germany and Japan have to say about us. But for the life of me I can't remember ever hearing that part about the war before and I've always had an interest in history. I'd really appreciate it if someone would take the time to post some documentation to back up this post. I'd be very interested. |
