Is it still in peoples hearts and minds, or have people moved on now, six years later ?,
Thoughts? |

Hopefully we remember that day with respectful sadness for those who lost loved ones in those tragedies...
... and also to remember that America isn't as invincible as our government likes to propagandize that we are or are working towards.

| Naturally, I watched the shocking events unfold on live television. That's how I remember it. I was watching tv and a series of dramatic news flashes became full coverage with much repetition as the day wore on. |

I remember getting ready for middle school and watching it on television. Now, my friends are over there fighting in Iraq...

Iraq and WTC are two separate issues as I recall... though I wasn't following the news that closely.
But yeah, it must be very odd for you to have friends out at war now, when you were all in MS together back then!
I was sleeping in before college started in a few weeks. I took notes throughout the day and phoned them into my dad who was at work. My then b/f (now husband) who was in his senior year at hs, called me up really quick to ask that I not go into the city that day. I agreed, though hadn't any plans to go in anyway.
To be honest, except for some extra security (that was probably needed anyway, what with the immigration problem) and some questionable laws that have yet to have a bigger impact than the Red Scare, at least from what our hs history book said...
I'd say America hasn't changed much. Our media and politicians are always hyping the "terra, terra, terra", but for most of us (can't speak for the victims of course) it's business as usual these days.
I finished school, had a son, got a job, got another job, got married.... pretty normal stuff. |

My kids and I will never forget seeing that plane hit the second tower and exploding. I have saved the newspapers from that time, and we take them out and read them every once in a while to remember where we were and how we are now 6 years later.

Well, what happened on 9/11/2001 was just an incentive for us to actually announce the war on terror and go overseas. And yes, I was in 8th grade when it happened and a lot of my friends are overseas now fighting. Most on their 2+ tours of duty too.

| I was in New Jersey waiting to fly home the next day ( Las Vegas ). I was there taking care of some of my elderly mothers affairs. The next day was 9-11-01. My flight was Continental out of Newark at 2 PM in the afternoon. All I could think of is getting home to Vegas. Fate is strange. An earlier flight a different air line a different story might have evolved. I flew out Saturday after. The last thing I could see from the gate was alot of smoke coming 10 miles across the river in New York where two buildings once stood. I remember. |
