I've been holding out for hydrogen powered cars for several years now and it looks like they are finally about to go into production!!!

http://automobiles.honda.com/future-cars/fcx-concept.aspx?ef_id=1097

I think Chevy or someone is just about ready too. Saw something in a magazine add the other day.

Now, it's not like I'm going to be able to actually *afford* one of these guys...at least not for several years BUT!

It's such a great concept! I can't wait to see it used in houses for electricity too!!!!

At least the car will burn clean while I'm stuck in traffic.

I wonder how the hydrogen holds up in a wreck, safer cars have been way over due.

I was amazed the other day on the news when they said how many children die as a result of being accidently backed over, it's a little off topic but cars need to be totally redisigned for saftey a lot of which are just no brainers.

Indeed.

I saw a tv special on...I think it was like the discovery channel or something. They have the fuel cells small enough and compact enough that the danger to explosion is minimal and is actually safer than traditional gas tanks or something close to that.

Saw it a few years ago though, so I can't remember much. I just remember it wasn't a big deal anymore...which was when I began hoping in earnest for the fuel cell cars! B/c after that it was just a matter of getting the expense down.

I seem to recall that they have sensors now for things behind your car. No reason why it shouldn't be mandatory what with kids being accidentally run over and all!

yeah, it didn't take anyone this long to see the danger with automatic garage doors.

clean burning cars, dare I dream ?
I'd be willing to bet that people will be healthier without all the benzene.

Yes. Nothing like not having AC and having to sit in traffic with your window down inhaling the fumes. Razz

GM's Fuel Cell program is (IMO) a sham, just as their Electric Car EV-1 was. They simply are not serious about moving from gasoline. They come up with a new technology every 10 years, let it out for a couple years, then bury it. Honda nor Toyota are any different. I just can't believe the wealth and power attached to oil will allow such a thing. As for hydrogen fuel itself, like Ethanol, I don't see either as environmentally or economically sound. The amount of Corn needed for Ethanol is simply not possible to make a large switch to it. The reason is that the government is too prudish to allow Ethanol from other sources, like Hemp. Hydrogen production, rather than getting it from electrolysis of water, is said to be taken from coal. Coal? Why? Everything you do with coal produces byproducts which are not clean. If the automakers were serious, they would advance plug-in electric and solar power.

I'd be happy to buy a hybrid car, if the price ever comes down. They are asking waaaaaay too much for them. And they're kinda ugly too. Give me a better looking cheaper one, and I'll purchase it!!! Until then, I'll keep driving my Jeep and combining as many errands as I can at one time. I'll drive my scooter too---soon as I can get back on it. Gonna give it a try later this week, if the weather holds out.

I would also like to put solar panels on my house for electric savings and such. Talk about something costing too much!!!! I'd have to take out a huge loan.......sigh......
