Jane Tomlinson was a truly remarkable woman. diagnosed with terminal cancer, she took up any number of grueeling sports to raise money for charity and to prove you can't write people off. She died this week, only after raising nearly £2,000,000 for charity all the while suffering from terminal cancer.
Words fail me....read about her here
She battled breast cancer, raised £1.75million for charity and was an inspiration to millions.
Jane Tomlinson finally lost her fight for life yesterday. The 43-year-old won an army admirers by defiantly taking on gruelling fundraisers after doctors told her seven years ago she had only six months to live.
The mum-of-three defied her terminal prognosis to raise millions for charity and complete the most gruelling of athletic achievements.
She seemed invincible. But on Monday night, Jane, 43, lost the one battle she could never hope to win.
With her husband Mike and daughters Suzanne, 21, and Rebecca, 18, at her bedside, the former Daily Mirror columnist slipped away at St Gemma's Hospice in her home city of Leeds. Her son Steven, 10, was being cared for by relatives.
Yesterday her devastated family paid tribute to the woman who touched so many lives. They said: "Seven years ago her aim was to leave us with fantastic memories - none of us expected how fantastic those would be... We hope she is at peace from the pain that has accompanied her for so long."
Despite being given six months to live in 2000, Jane went on to achieve some remarkable physical feats - and raised £1.75million for charity.
Her final challenge, completed a year ago, was a 4,200- mile Ride Across America by bike. Then she quit to spend her last months with her family.
Family friend Ryan Bowd told us yesterday: "Jane was admitted to the hospice 10 days ago and was able to say her goodbyes."
Stars and politicians have united in paying tribute to Jane, who was awarded an MBE, a CBE and became a Daily Mirror Pride of Britain winner after we championed her cause.
A Palace spokeswoman said the Queen was "saddened" by the news of Mrs Tomlinson's death.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown, said: "Her life and her work is an inspiration to millions of people in this country and around the world.
"Jane's mission in life was a simple one: to make the most of every day and to help others, and she not only achieved that several times over but inspired millions of others along the way.
"We will remember her amazing spirit and strength and that exceptional charity work, and she will be a daily inspiration to fight on against the scourge of cancer."
Jane's friend, model Nell McAndrew, said: "She's someone that people will never forget. I feel lucky to have met such a special person."
Paul Connew, of children's medical research charity SPARKS, said that Jane was their biggest-ever fundraiser, raising over £400,000. He said: "She was inspirational - but behind all her charity work she was also just an ordinary mum."
And five-times Olympic champion Sir Steve Redgrave spoke of her "immense courage".
Yesterday, neighbours revealed how Jane had been a source of strength to other cancer sufferers.
Marie Sutton-Chidwick, 39, said: "My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at a similar time to Jane. When her cancer worsened, she shocked us all with her optimism. I remember Mum saying, 'Well, if Jane can do it, so can I!'"
Earlier this year, Jane talked of why she was raising money for cancer research. She said she didn't want fellow sufferers to be told: "Go home... Look to the present, don't look to the future. You probably won't be alive in three years' time.
"I hope that people don't have to hear that in the future and instead hear, 'You are gravely ill - we can treat your disease.'"

Yes, she is truly a remarkable woman. I pray for peace for the family.
My mother passed away exactly 9 years before from complications due to breast cancer (had surgery to remove the cancer but apparently the doctors didn't catch it all, a year or so later the cancer spread to other parts of my mom's body and eventually hit her brain).
My mom didn't raise monies for charities though. She used to deliver newspapers to the folks in her surrounding area. And her customers always had a good word for her. |

| What a shame that the good have to leave this world so early. I pray God grants her family peace in their sorrow. |

We should all hope to have even half of the courage that this woman displayed in life...
RIP dear lady.
