Guys, as you know, I have been a supporter of Star Trek: The New Voyages (bear with me) team since their inception. However, some of their "webisodes" have not been particularly good. Yes, the sets and costumes have been spot on, but the sound, lighting, direction, FX and acting... well, it is subjective.
NOW THEN, I tell you that I have seen a miracle, and I want you to share in the magic. Today, I watched the latest "webisode" called 'The World Enough & Time', with no other than George Takei as Sulu! He is staggeringly AMAZING and should have his own Excelsior series. This is no hype, but this ep... webisode is truly BREATHTAKING!!!! TRUST ME!!! They have everything just right. Yes, Cawley and the others are not the familiar actors we love, but the story is so GREAT that you will forget everything. I PROMISE YOU, THIS IS SOMETHING VERY, VERY SPECIAL. I am not ashamed to say that I was moved to tears. THIS MUST BE SULU CANON! JUST WATCH OR DOWNLOAD (if you download you will need Quicktime or VLC).

Yes that was excellent, easily their best effort to date. These guys are getting goooood.
Cowley was actually decent as Kirk, his acting is much improved, and George was just killer as was the girl who played his daughter Elena.
Very good, imaginative story too.
Now no spoilers people! |

I've wanted to see TAS get the CGI treatment for years - this seems like a no brainer, what's Paramount waiting for? |

Very enjoyable. Thank you for sharing.
So, why can't they use that cast in a new movie? Everyone is used to them already. They seem to do a good job with their respective roles and take care to respect the original actors who played them.
Of course with that cast being so young looking, any academy movie would have to show them as grade schoolers. But Hey! Gotta start somewhere. |

| This is going to sound crazy, but I think that this New Voyages' episode is the best Trek I have seen in years. YOU HAVE TO SEE IT TO BELIEVE IT! |

You know I have said this for years now , I know I would buy it:) ...........
Sorry Harry I just cant stand George Takei
Have you ever noticed I never have captures or art except one piece I needed for my art book:)
Thing that always gets me with these amateur shows is where do they get funding:)
I did watch some of it . and the young Kirk was very Good, the rest NO!! The guy playing sulu was Ok:)
IMHO that is!

Why, if you don't mind me asking?
I do recommend that you watch it through. It's a cracking story that was originally written for the dropped Star Trek Phase II series in the '70s. If you do a bit of checking, you will find a lot of Trek luminaries working on these efforts. They just keep getting better and better. Yeah, they aren't the original actors, and some are very wooden to say the least, but the story was so magnificent this time round that I seemed to ignore the differences of the leads; kind of like how we all filled in the gaps with our imaginations on TOS, when a planet was clearly a studio set. |

There certain actors I like, and I found George one of those actors that thinks he is better than he really is. And IMHO he could "Never " be a lead actor, and while I watch him he just annoys me. Surly you have actors that for some reason they just annoy you. Like "House" a great show but he drives me mad, Rowan Atkins makes me squirm when I watch for a rare moment.
Rodney in Stargate Atlantis. one person can ruin a good series for me. there are many examples, but it is midnight so you get my drift, it is as I said a personal thing, I have to be at one with my viewing. better for my psyche.
On the other hand why would one praise an amateur show when Star Trek Enterprise was belittled by all in sundry, a show I really like. and Bakula would leave this lot for dead with his acting

Well, yes. Some of the acting was a bit raw around the edges, but, I am very glad to see a venue for these youngsters to hone in on their acting skills. I would not be surprised to see some of these young actors standing in the legend category years from now.
As for George, Star trek was probably a big break for him and took him away from the stereotypical roles of the "evil Japanese," fighter pilots hell-bent of destroying everything. Give him a break. He did ok, plus, his performance in this episode shows some well seasoned growth in the acting department.
I would rather watch young actors in these sorts of roles, then those immoral skin flicks with bad language and stupid stunts that threaten to overshadow the actors.
But, that is just my opinion. |

Interesting, to me it had overtones of NextGen or Voyager - with de-emphasis of Kirk, Spock and McCoy.
Though I do agree with you - a crackerjack story old bean!
P.S. Daisy - While the acting of Enterprise was top notch, to me it just didn't feel like TOS, the only Trek I ever really got into. I liked it when I saw it but didn't go out of my way to do so (Except the end of season 4 - Very enjoyable!) |

Yeah, they seem to be getting better, and the story seems good but there was a lot of extra bla ... bla ... bla
Scotty Says "What else did your father say about me ?"
What's her name Says "He said I'd hate to be your liver"
Laughter track "hee ... hee"
Scotty Says "Aye ... and I'd hate to be your bladder lassie"
I don't think Kirk would go after Sulu's daughter like that. And the only way the cast works is if I open my imagination and pretend that the original cast members are playing the parts which takes a lot of imagination. Entertaining overall, and it would be nice if more Star Trek stories where given a chance although I would like to see Star Trek become more mystical, personally I liked Sulu better with the long hair than all stuffy on the bridge of the Excelsior. That's the character that intrigued me that's the one I wanted to learn more about, that's not what we got though.
And what was that one quote about being on the fast track to becoming a captain ..... gee if that's the fast track ... or maybe he was thinking of an alternate universe. Yeah ... hang out on the bridge for 30 years ... don't talk too much and who knows you may make captain. What the heck ... lets make everyone a captain. |

A very interesting use of Shakespeare
James Cawley was pretty good as Kirk
The ears on Spock were wrong: aren't they supposed to be straight instead of bending in and pointing up like an elf?
I noticed all of the old TOS uniforms and this show had all the sound effects like TOS
Question: Is that Kelly kid (the one who plays Bones) DeForrest's great-great-son or something? The hair on his head could've been clipped back a little bit more to make it neater but I also noticed when Kirk was calling Bones that he used the same fist hand movement as in TOS to answer the intercom
WHEN DOES THIS COME ON TELEVISION? DOES ANYONE KNOW?
The girl who played Alanna (Christina Moses) was very good and she fit the role very well
TOS will always be the only Star Trek for me |
