After 24 contestants, 13 weeks and 12 evictions, Big Brother 8 has drawn to a close. But this year the Channel 4 reality show has failed to generate huge excitement among the tabloids or fans.

Even Tim Hincks, chief creative officer at Endemol UK, which produces the show, has admitted the current series has lacked a certain something,It's not been the year where Big Brother has set the world alight, in terms of the summer," he said

Ratings are down on last year, with an average audience of 3.8 million so far compared to 4.5 million in the same period in 2006. Channel 4 recently announced that the celebrity version of the show would not be returning next year.

Is this show now, been done to death, and well past its shelf life?,have people lost interest and don't care about these non entity "contestants"..?

Or do you think the show still has plenty of life left, and some new ideas would revitalise the programme?

Personally i have not watched any of this years show.

thoughts?

My fiance still watches it religiously... but I can't say as I see the point... reality TV never captured my fancy too much.

Confused

I can only talk about the US one which is faring a bit better in the ratings this year than the past couple years. I think the casting for extreme personalities to be on the show is getting out of hand. In our current BB show we have a guy named Evil Dick who is a "professional reality star wannabe" I used to run a reality site called "The Fishbowl" and Dick was actually a very vocal member (read troublemaker) on the site who would spew all kinds of opinions about BB5 and BB6 saying that he was a runner up on Big Brother 4, was switched out of the final contestants at the last minute on Big Brother 5, was in the running for Big Brother 6 and now he finally makes it to Big Brother 8 with his daughter and their story about not speaking for years on end seems to falter when they are talking to others in the house. First it was 7 years and then 5 years and now 2 years. One would think that the story would have been straightened out to begin with.

I think most everyone in the house wants to be an actor - you had Mike who was a "painting contractor" but was also a model, Jen who had a princess complex and called herself a nanny from Beverly Hills is actually an actress who has been in a couple commercials.

It's not a realistic slice of life and pretty much says that real people are boring.

That being said, several of my good friends are "reality stars" and I produced a TV show and movie with a cast of them a couple years ago. Wink

I think that a lot of the reality shows are being run into the ground. Plus, the originals are usually the best because they are sort of raw in nature.

Take for example, American Idol. Most of the contestants in the original program were raw talented folks who were looking for their break. Then things got more sophisticated with AI workshops opening up all over the country for the AI wannabees.... parents pushing their kids into voice lessons, workshops, and then onto the auditions.

Survivor is getting too predictable. I may watch some of the China one, but just for the scenery.

Now, I must say, that I enjoyed the program, "On the Lot," with all of the movie director hopefuls. There were some talented people in that group and I am looking forward to seeing their names in some of the movie credits in the future.

As for Big Brother, I have never been a big fan of that show. The morals of some of those people are a bit much for this old lady. Sorry.... Rolling Eyes Wink

I never have watched these shows I just dont get them, what is real about a house full of wierd people.

In fact when I think about it I watch only Boston Legal, some documentries, and the news. thas real enough for me:) then I watch my vast DVD collection in the evenings.

I do not watch TV through the day Never have.
