A very annoying habit that the imbeciles who are now running television in america today have taken to is time compression; reducing the number of frames in whatever is being shown to lessen the actual running time of a movie or tv program for the sake of more commercial time. Of course, this nonsense is suppose to be invisible to the viewer but it is not. The result of time compression is a continual jerkiness in the movement of the video image. TV Land of course has applied this very irritating practice to it`s early morning showings of tos and I assume to all their programs in general.

Then can I assume, CaptLogan, that both you and greenchick approve of time compression for the sake of more commercials?...or do either of you even know what time compression is?

I'm not even watching tv now, and even if I did have it on, I'd be watching the Sundance Channel or something... Not wasting my time like you.... Rolling Eyes

Yes you may have the remote, Mirizor, if you can name me ONE cable network in America today who`s programming consists exclusively of 1950s/1960s TV shows...just one.

I quite frankly don`t understand your remark, Mirizor. I`m a child of the sixties and grew up with sixties TV programs and I...well...I`d like very much to see most of them again. You can`t understand that?

I don't mind random episodes here and there. If I want to watch them in order, I'll pop in my DVDs. I mean, I have my ST TOS playlist on my computer set to random all the time.

I understand how you feel, and I can't blame you for wanting a piece of your childhood unsullied by the gimmicks of the station owners. I'm sorry for your frustration and your last post kinda got to me. Tugged at the old heartstrings. Here you go, Morgram. Something about you makes me think you're a Dragnet fan Cool Cool . Image

I loved Dragnet as well. Not so much the really early ones, but the ones with Harry Morgan.

And I can understand what Morgram means about time compression. A lot of these old shows I can remember, but if I didn't, I think I'd have trouble knowing what was going on because they have cut out chunks to make way for commercials. Really frustrating.

Oh yeah, and my new favorite ~ when they are running the credits in a split screen with the start of the new show. Confused

I wonder why TV Land never picked up Perry Mason? Now there's a classic I would love to see run.

I really don't watch much TV. Too busy on the internet. But a lot of those old shows are being put on DVD now. Perhaps you should look into that.

Buying the DVD's is one option. But, it can get really expensive very quickly. I bought a Perry Mason DVD, and it was $40 for 1/2 of one season. That adds up pretty quickly.

And, I admit I can be lazy at times. Kind of easier when you are tired to just plop in front of the boob tube and watch something, than to get the DVD out, etc. Hey ~ that is time I could be spending making myself snacks! Snacks!!!!! Wink

I'm sure you're right, Doc.

I remember the old USA network (absolutely loved the old B movies they played all night in the weekends). At one point I can remember timing the commercials. 15 minutes of them before the show came back on! It was sad. I just stopped watching it all together.

I am also a child of the very late fifties...early sixties. I somewhat do remember shows like Peter Gunn, 77 Sunset Strip (tv version-the soundtrack I remember listening to...the finger-snapping), sci fi shows like Outer Limits, Twilight Zone...later it was The Invaders with Roy Thinnes. I was more into the sci fi genre.
But I also liked some comedies like F-Troop, Get Smart, McHale's Navy. And if I was loaded with pocket change I would get those programs on dvd if available.

1. The programs of earlier decades are significantly better than most of the programs of the last 30 years. 2. 50s/60s shows have been absent from television for the past 30 years. 3. Millions of americans should not be expected to go bankrupt purchasing alot of old shows THAT SHOULD have been put back on TV a long time ago.

Must have aired in the late 50s early 60s. I don't think I've ever seen it - not even a rerun.

It aired on CBS I believe from 1959-1963. Most shows from the 1950s and 60s have been virtually ignored for the last 30 years and as a result many TV viewers like yourself have never seen them and therefore have been denied the opportunity to see how genuinely funny american TV once upon a time actually was. The last time I saw Dennis the Menace myself was back in 2003 when TV Land ran 10 episodes stretched out over a period of four weeks.
