Evil or Very Mad

My wallet is screaming and and any of my tiny extra soda pop can income is going dry...gas just went to $4.17 a gallon........In Streator, about 25 miles from here it's $4.25...in Chicago it's nearly $5. Evil or Very Mad

Any one elses wallet having a hernia over these prices? Shocked

YES!!!! Even though ours is a little less (because of the refineries close by) it's still about $4.00, and that has people running scared. I've already noticed concern in the businesses, especially Mom and Pop stores, because people are cutting back on their discretionary spending: fewer sodas, candies, movies, trips to the mall. At first i wasn't worried, now I am!

How many liters in a gallon ???
Over here the diesel is 1,50 euro a liter that's about 2,10 dollar.
Gas can be up to 2,40 a liter about 3,60 dollar.

The only way to stop ptices getting even higher is stop buying fuel Sad

And THAT is NEVER going to happen I'm afraid.....

Some of my friends and family members snorted at me when I decided to work out of my home instead of getting a job elsewhere. They're not snorting anymore. With the money I save of gas, business clothes, meals out, and other things associated with a traditional job, I actually come out ahead.

And yes, even with that the gas prices are horrible. I have filled the tank once since Bob left for Sicily. I have only driven to the store and once to my folks house in the next town. Cost me a little over 32.00 to fill the tank. I am taking great pains not to take any unnecessary trips right now.

Well, time to get back to work. I am working some night time hours on the weekends. I want to earn some extra money for a special project I am working on. Cool

Pippa, one liter is almost exactly one quart, 4 quarts to a gallon.

Here in Sweden we have to pay $2.25/liter or $9/gallon.

Over here in Yukon, it's $3.79 a gallon. It only gives you an 1/8 of a tank! I have a friend who has a midsized car and she said that she spent $50 to fill her car's tank!!!!!! That's half of my grocery bill when things are good with the budget. My husband is considering getting one of those scooters to go to work but he travels 40 miles each day most of it on interstate. I don't want him killed trying to get to work and back. We've thought of him working here in town but all that's available is retail and fastfood work and he'd have to work four of those to get the pay that he does now being a pressman in the city. It's either that or live in the city and you couldn't PAY me to live in the city!!! I hate city life! I barely like town life. Guess my dream of living in the country is coming to an end because of the stupid gas prices.

I've been cutting back on things too and not buying as much junk food as I had for the kids and not making any extra trips.I have canceled some Dr appointments that weren't nesessary or emergency type things. Most of our bills are being paid in pieces to accomodate the gas we need. I have thought of planting a garden but with all the feral cats around that is out, as the little brats pee all over the back of the house and have dug up half of my flower garden...especially my Gladiolas!!!! Evil or Very Mad

We only buy clothes if we really need them or when they have a sale and you can get 2 things for the price of one..

I'll join you and have that glass of pineapple juice as if gas was ever that high here, my back yard can accomodate one horse and a small cart.

Seriously, our petrol is up at around the $10 per gallon mark now, 65% of that is government tax too!

I'm feeling your pain! I drive an older Mercedes that can only use high test, and around here the cheapest I can find it is at $4.09. Yesterday I put $30.00 in and the gauge went barely above the half way point.
Been using the motorcycle alot more lately to run the errands I can with it, but there ain't alot of groceries that can fit on the back of a motorcycle. Laughing
Also, where do you put three kids on that?
At least with being out of work for the summer, I won't be using the car all that much. When I do use it, I try to plan all my stops in one trip, and get back to the house the shortest possible way. When we go down to the beach to visit my father, we'll be staying for a few days instead of going down just for the day.
It really sucks having to plan you life around gas prices. At least we should be greatful that we don't have the prices they have in Europe.

I can agree with that sign there!!!!!! To fill up my tank ONCE it will cost me $54.95.......

I've been doing that too as we have cut down on alot of little trips.
i try to do all my other trips in one day then try to stay home for the rest of the week except to go pick up cans at the ball park. I did get $17 in one nights worth of picking up cans but that's not all the time.

And yes, I'm grateful we're not paying that at the pump like they are in Europe!!!

$4.37 per gallon for regular unleaded here..... but that was yesterday so it's probably gone up another few cents since then.

Still cheaper than Starbucks, but not as satisfying somehow....... Confused

Perhaps it is time to fire up the old moonshine steels. Those hillbillies had the right idea in the first place. Home grown fuel. Keeps your jalopy running and gives your body a kick start. Laughing Wink

Not really.

I don't drive to work in summer... I bike... It's only 6 km. (That's about 4 miles in American)

On rainy days, my husband drives me... but then again... his Ford Focus doesn't guzzle gas.

I've designed my life over the past 10 years in such a way as to avoid long commutes.

When I go camping next week, we rent a Caravan -

My Dad always said about buying cars... Think about the size you think you need, and buy one size smaller. For the time you need the extra space - just rent. In the end, it will still work out cheaper.
