Dramatic Picture Captures Cat Rescue
Six Cats Rescued In Chaotic Scene
Read this
Milford, Mass., firefighters made dramatic rescues Tuesday afternoon, saving six cats from a burning home on South Main Street.
The fire broke out in the kitchen, and firefighters and emergency workers scrambled to save the cats inside.
Photographer Mike Spring of the MetroWest Daily News captured a dramatic picture of Lt. Frank Ferrante, of the Milford Fire Department, dropping a cat from the second-floor window of a smoke-filled bedroom into the arms of a firefighter.
Five of the cats were taken to the Metrowest Veterinary Association after being given oxygen by emergency personnel. A sixth cat that jumped out of a window got away.
The newspaper reported a chaotic scene with people chasing cats in different directions and trying to get them oxygen.
Milford Police Sgt. James Heron said emergency personnel cut oxygen masks so they fit the cats' faces.
The homeowner, Phyllis Collins, was described by neighbors as distraught when she arrived at her house.
There were 11 cats in the home. It was not clear if those unaccounted for ran away.
