Monty Python's Flying Circus has beaten Only Fools and Horses to be named the most influential television comedy series of all time.
The show, which featured John Cleese and Michael Palin, topped a poll of 4,000 TV viewers to scoop the accolade.
Monty Python's Flying Circus was first screened in 1969 and also starred Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones and Graham Chapman. The dead parrot sketch was named the best alternative comedy sketch by the readers of Radio Times in 2004.

| I see that my favorite, Benny Hill, is not in the top 10. It must be true then that the British deny knowledge of Benny. |

Well, you have to admit when watching Benny Hill, the guy was fairly racist in his "comedy." Looking at it now through adult eyes, his "comedy" was rather horrible.
Not that Monty Python couldn't throw in stereotypes and stuff, but they did it in such a way that you could tell 100% they didn't believe that crap. They were just playing for laughs. |

And you shouldn't judge a person by the character he plays. |
