As for posting - keep trucking
This place has turned into a graveyard; I'm sure it will pick up in October.
Another tip: Create one post that has to do with the same topic, for instance: 'kirkscutie11728: Bills Bucket of Movies' and keep posting to that thread. Again, just a tip... |

I heard another rumour that the quote may not actually be correct about executives trying to get Bill to do the movie.
Gotta love journalism...especially the misquotes.

| The first article was from a minnie mouse newspaper in Savannah, Georgia, probably by a reporter who has never seen Star Trek. Definitely looks like a misquote, although the paragraph is not actually a quote. The weirdness of it all is that Bill and Leonard are the only ones talking. Production is not saying anything, so everyone is making assumptions based on those two. |

I heard this as well, Paul. It was on TrekMovie. Your friend Anthony seems really pissed off and he wants to ban all of the people there who are lobbying for Shatner's return in the movie and the people who are saying bad things about him (he actually mentioned williamshatner.com having these types of bans in one of his comments and said that he wasn't afraid to do it again) and even posted an Update that said that this kind of joking 'upsets the Shatner fans and is not funny and I [Anthony] will not support it'
I saw the whole Shatner Nimoy thing on TrekMovie when it was posted and I do think that Bill wants to be a part of the movie. I've also heard things about the newspaper reporting these 'rumors' and it seems quite fishy that Leopold's statement wasn't a quote. Well. If Abrams really wants Bill in the movie Bill will be in it. By the way, I can't wait for the Emmys and to see if Boston Legal and Bill win! I hope they win for all the categories BL is nominated in! It will bring about some much needed calm regarding Star Trek XI and all of the rumors. |

TrekMovie has lifted a few questionable words from Savannah Now and stoked them into serious speculation about how Bill is pulling a hoax on Star Trek fans. This kind of viral sensationalism in news reporting is the hallmark of yellow journalism.
Whether or not there's a fake PR campaign for Bill's role in Abrams' film, TrekMovie's accusatory hype is creating suspicion and resentment among fans, who then blindly cast aspersions upon Bill. Note it's TrekMovie that invokes the words "hoax" and "conspiracy" in this matter. No surprise that blog readers are saying they believe Bill is holding out for huge money, and that he's a "greedy a**" and a "liar". Of course this is bonus ammunition for noisy groups who insist that Bill is too old and fat to reprise Kirk.
As expected, this ignorant rumormongering is spreading through other blogs and movie news sites. One example is Obsessed With Films, which is propagating Anthony Pascale's spin: "Trek Movie is running a story that puts a new spin on proceedings... It was previously thought that the Trek team were trying to find a place in the film for Shatner and if they could he'd be on board. Could they have finally cracked the Shat conundrum?"
TrekMovie knows damn well that its inflammatory double-speak is picked up and spread by other bloggers and news outlets that don't know well enough to ignore such pernicious bulls**t. I've encountered this before.
Scandal brings readership, and that's what matters to hacks. It makes scummy National Enquirer a newsstand success. Looks like it also makes some success of the TrekMovie blog, as it already draws more web traffic than this site.

Very well written! Personally, I think Bill has much, much better things to do than to play with and hoax his fans, he is fairly open and straight-forward with everything, anyway
I agree with you, since I was just on TrekMovie and all of this 'hoax' junk really upsets fans, and it greatly upsets me. I just hope that there isn't a boycott
Bill would NEVER be above hoaxing his own fans and he would NEVER have a hand in getting acting roles this way, everyone should just leave him alone and let him live his life, if he wants to go back to ST as Kirk I wish him the best, and I'm sure he's encountered this all before |

Good afternoon:
The only way THAT’S going to happen if these trek forums like "TrekMovie" shut down, including this site!
If you provide a vehicle for the public (i.e. fans), the actor is going to have to except what is at face value.

The posturing "insiders" remain oblivious to the fact that Bill is on public webcast -- LiveVideo -- to explain to boggled bloggers that he is not involved in lobbying for a role in Abrams' Star Trek movie. Do the Klingons in the audience need a Universal Translator for this?
If the horse's mouth isn't enough: Every truly authoritative voice around this project -- JJ Abrams, the other producers and writers, Leonard Nimoy, and William Shatner -- has openly acknowledged the desire (and the logistics) of inserting elder Kirk into the story in a way that's respectful to the film, to the fans, and to the actor. This should give everyone (of sound mind) good reason to consider that the right thing shall be done for all.

Yet here comes ever-self-praising TrekMovie to opine about "a very pro-active campaign of deception" by Bill. And the yellow-press league will routinely copy-and-paste and repeat the derogatory hogwash for the edification of their loyal readership.
"It's a madhouse... a MADHOUSE!"

Here's yet another example of how yellow journalism uses inflammatory phrasing and misrepresentation...
Ben Widdicombe, who writes the Gatecrasher column at New York Daily News, posted the following, which leads readers to believe that Bill is an addled and manic fool who has "denounced" JJ Abrams:
Bill Shatner, space cadet
Wednesday, August 22nd 2007, 4:00 AM
Maybe this is why the captain was relieved of his command.
A belowdecks drama over who will man the Enterprise in the next "Star Trek" film spilled into the open at a recent convention in Las Vegas.
"We had our picture taken with William Shatner, and he was so [addled] and red of face that his eyes were watering," said a Gatecrasher pal who was at the Las Vegas Hilton on Aug. 12.
Addressing the crowd, Shatner denounced producer J.J. Abrams for casting Leonard Nimoy (who was sitting next to him) in the 2008 prequel but not him.
"In his manic stream, he also related a road-rage incident he had en route to the conference where he got out of the car to confront a driver while saying, 'I am Captain Kirk, I am Captain Kirk!'" says the shocked witness.
The other driver turned out to be a stunt man who was a fan, so it was okay. But the actor's strange behavior even aroused the concern of the normally implacable Mr. Spock.
"Shatner was so manic onstage that Leonard Nimoy actually said, 'We're worried about you,'" says the spy.

A sensible report of William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy's appearance at the 6th annual Official Star Trek Convention in Vegas can be found at StarTrek.com...

A couple of boos and a hiss at that yellow journalism I would spit but I'd have to squeegee my computer screen and I'm too lazy for that. Jerks! |
