| Actually the best and most spontaneous-appearing comedy is usually the best rehearsed... |

Bill isn't doin this stuff because he needs money, or work. He has plenty of both which he can do.
It just seems that he wishes to take on a differant direction that seems to suit him quite well, but of course is fairly differant then what Trekkies expect.
First time I saw the first Priceline ads (the REAL old, crummy ones where he walks around a supermarket inn a low-budget ad) I nearly smacked the TV screen. This was long b4 this BBS, before I knew him outside Star Trek, and I had never seen him anywhere else.
Now I'm much more glad he's doin this, because now everytime I say "William Shatner" and some one says "Who?" I say "Priceline, Star Trek, Rescue 911..."
"Oh him! The guy from Priceline!"

I don't know what everyone's talking about with Williams Shatner's "shock jock" humor. First off, what does that mean? I've never heard the term before.
All I can say in regards to William's humor is that he has his beats down. I think that's an important quality to have in order to pull off good humor.
I also agree with what Leonard Nimoy had to say about Bill. "He's a bad punster". For example, in a video, William Shatner was in a lake wearing scuba gear. He removed his mouthpeice and said proudly, "Like a seal" He paused and then added ..."Seal of approval". It was cheesy as hell, but that's what made it so funny. My humor is extremely similar, as is my father's. My dad and I are the only ones that get our jokes. So I admire that in Bill.
He can make the worst joke look good...because...hey...
...it's BILL!
So tell me where his humor is distasteful...I haven't seen it yet.
Love to you all,

Thanks.. bows.. And I have you know I didn't even loose an ounce of dignity during the typing of that. (actually I think the big bar of white nut crispy chocolat kinda made me a more wellrounded person)

and who knows how it's evolved so far,
but this sentence cracked me up, maarten!:
"Showtime was a good example btw, I think if anyone can upstage Robert de Niro and Eddy murphy in the same scene, screw dignity "

Yeah I think ~Dave needs to talk to bong about some nice relax tips. the only thing that shocks me in this whole thread is how serious he takes things
ahem Dave, dignity is NOT in the eye of the beholder
(its something you buy for 9.95 at you local priceline!!)
Anyway, definately agree Bill is a punny man
As for shockjock, I do believe Dave was suggesting that Bill should have his own radio show or tour as standup comedian. (ok he didn't but it sounds like fun to me!)
Actually Dave suggested Bill was being Stern and Howard didn't tell how hard it was to do.
