There's a report on TrekMovie that Tom Cruise might be playing Captain Christopher Pike. It is still a rumor, although both men do look a lot alike. Hmmmm. The only movie I saw Tom Cruise in recently was War of the Worlds and it wasn't a very great job on his part either. We shall see...this is taking very interesting twists, and the movie hasn't even started filming yet

UPDATE: Rumor Denied
Arnold Robinson, a publicist for Mr. Cruise, tells TrekMovie.com that this story is "not true." TrekMovie.com has also not been able to get any confirmation of the story from any sources.

The idea of Cruise as Pike is not that crazy, and not a bad idea actually. Abrams has a good relationship with Cruise (it was Cruise who plucked Abrams from the world of TV to bring him on to direct Mission: Impossible: III). Abrams has since stated that he would like to work with the actor again. In the TrekMovie.com recommendations for casting last year I suggested Cruise as the villain (and Tom Hanks as Pike). Cruise has done cameos, the latest of which was in Austin Powers in Goldmember. Assuming they could meet his price they would also have to ensure that it doesn’t get the kibosh by Viacom chief Sumner Redstone who unceremoniously ended Cruise’s long-time relationship with Paramount a year ago.

Expect big names in smaller parts
TrekMovie.com reported long ago that that Pike will be in the movie, and it TrekMovie.com has been told that it is likely that some of these smaller supporting parts will have bigger name actors since the main cast is likely to be made up of lesser-knowns. This was done to good effect in another recent franchise refresh Batman Begins: - which had Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman). IGN also reported that Paramount are looking at another A-lister for the role of the villain. Right now the producers are deep into casting this film and so expect to see lots and lots of casting rumors and news over the next couple of months

If Tom Cruise has anything to do with that New Trek Movie, I'd rather rip my own fingernails out with rusty old pliers before I see him in a starfleet uniform! Mad

HHB votes: leave established stars out of the mix.

Well I guess it's just another wave of crap
No way is Paramount going to have Tom Cruise in a movie any time soon.

Headlines August 23 2006

Film distribution giant ends 14-year relationship with actor's production company because of recent erratic behavior, says a report.

Oh, I don't know, if he played a red shirt, and died a rather horrible death by having something rather large and slimey eat him, I wouldn't be totally against it......... Shocked

I think that's a wonderful idea, Cat! I second it, Where can we get this guy a red spandex shirt? Maybe a non-functioning phaser? And leave him out on a planet somewhere far far off in the universe...hey...I think the scary thing is that I'd ACTUALLY PAY to see this Very Happy

The late sci-fi writer L. Ron Hubbard, creator of Scientology, is referred to as "Source" by devout Scientologists, and all of Hubbard's writings are revered as immutable, sacred scripture -- thus his Church sanctifies lying and racism. A hate-based doctrine is the antithesis of Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek.

Cruise's next film, Valkyrie, has him in the lead role as anti-Hitler German army officer Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg. The German government sees this as effectively whitewashing the vocal Scientology belief that psychiatry is a "Nazi pseudoscience" responsible for the Holocaust. Von Stauffenberg's eldest son has stated, "[Cruise] should leave my father alone."

Germany is among European countries that see Scientology for what it is: a for-profit cult. As Time notes, the German Defense Ministry considers the selection of Cruise to play Von Stauffenberg a "scandal". Now that United Artists is controlled by Cruise, it'll become an insidious part of Scientology's "Fair Game" tactics.

Oh, Tom Cruise isn't so bad. I can't picture him in a Star Trek movie though. I did love him in the role of the vampire LeStat in the movie 'Interview with a Vampire'. I love the scene where hs is dancing around with the rotten corpse of a woman. He says, "There's still some life in the old lady yet."
