....canned french style green beans.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070803/hl_ ... otulism_dc

Quote:
The FDA said the affected Lakeside French-cut green beans are sold nationwide under the brands Albertson's, Happy Harvest, Best Choice, Food Club, Bogopa, Valu Time, Hill Country Fare, HEB, Laura Lynn, Kroger, No Name, North Pride, Shop N Save, Shoppers Valu, Schnucks, Cub Foods, Dierbergs, Flavorite, IGA, Best Choice and Thrifty Maid.

The warning applies to cans with the following codes:

EAA5247, EAA5257, EAA5267, EAA5277, EAB5247, EAB5257, ECA5207,

ECA5217, ECA5227, ECA5297, ECB5207, ECB5217, ECB5227, ECB5307.

Consumers who have the products should dispose of them immediately, the FDA said.

Botulism symptoms include dizziness, double vision, difficulty in breathing and abdominal problems. People with those symptoms who may have eaten the recalled green beans should seek immediate medical attention, the FDA said.

I am seriously thinking about building a greenhouse and growing our own veggies. That way, I won't have to worry about things like that. Plus, the way I grow food, I don't have to worry about preserving anything. I use the square-foot method and only grow as we need it. At most the veggies stay in the fridge or on counter until eaten, which is a relatively short time.

I'm with you. I have a yard large enough to feed us all summer and freeze the rest to be eaten during the winter months.

I try to stay away from anything with "French" on the label, including fries.
They are greasy and bad for you, kind of like some French people.

Maybe people will start to can their own foods again
Like with Beer a few years back with people making there own home brews and also a lot more micro breweries starting up locally. Maybe we will see more specialty canneries. I have noticed that a lot of these manufactured product problems have been with the bargin store brands. But it would seem that a lot of these products are made by the same company maybe they should either switch companies or make it clear on the label so people can make more of an informed decision on the track record of that company rather than the brand name the store is selling it as.
