Every single day of my life. I just let it happen. Nothing I do can change how people see me. |

If that's how you see it, you're your own worst enemy. |

*shrugs* People don't see me, they see I'm fat and automatically see me as worthless. Nothing I do will change that so why should I even try? Better to be ignored then be talked to anyway. |

Jami,
Have you ever seen any of Andre Rieu's concerts? Many of the singers in his concerts are not exactly stick thin. They each have the shape of real women (not young, underdeveloped teeny poppers). Their voices are opera quality and everyone loves to listen to them. Their size is of no consequence.
If you have people around you who are ignoring you and your remarkable talent because of your size, then, perhaps, it is time to find a new group to hang with.
Have you ever tried out for a orchestra choir? I know that it is group singing, but many a soloists have emerged from such groups. |

I remember going to a Pi Gamma Mu initiation ceremony once. We had invited the qualifying students to come to the ceremony. When they came, we were mingling with the students in casual conversation. I did my best to talk to everyone. There were a few students who sort of tolerated me and spoke to me in a barely civil way. When it came time for the ceremony to begin, our director got up and called the president of our Pi Gamma Mu chapter to the podium. Guess who got up? Me. I had purposely not told the newbies that I was the president. I wanted to get a feeling of their personalities. I did.
Afterward, some of those students who had been almost rude, did some fast back peddling to get into my good graces. I didn't care, one way or another. As a sociologist, my experiment was complete.
I know, I can be sneaky sometimes. Tee hee, but that is what sociologists do sometimes. |
I thought you would just show the rack |

Nonsense ...it's what you do that can change it.
'Why should I even try' is a cop-out that avoids taking responsibility for any effort that it would take to make a difference. A low self-esteem gives off as strong of a vibe as a high one, and if you've resigned yourself to accept less from life than what you know you're capable of attaining, you are your own worst enemy ...not the people around you who are simply picking up on the negative 'message' that you're sending out to them.

Ignoring eh? Who was it that posted an all-points-bulleton when your private office fell off the face of the board? |

There are also many great opera companies around the US that are in need of great singers to audition for them.
