There are a number of cultures in the world where it is not uncommon for kids to remain at home until they are married, I know this is common in South and Central America. You also have married kids and their families living at home, grandparents, etc. I don't know, sometimes this almost seems like a better way for kids to grow up ~ surrounded by family and people who care about them. It would sure be a lot easier on families where both parents work, you'd have someone at home to care for the kid, and not have to send them to daycare, where you are not sure of the care they will receive.

But to still be pumping mom for money at 61 ~ that's pretty darn selfish. He should be helping her, not the other way around.

I can understand the culteral aspect. That's not unheard of even in this country. My niece-in-law's family lives like that in California. One big happy family for the most part. No biggy. But the old fella being unproductive and pushing for money is what bothers me,and the fact that it's so alien of a concept for me. In my family we can't wait to leave and never come back and only come back if we're on our way to something else. And not because we can't stand our parents, it's just because our folks can't stand us Laughing Laughing Well, at least in large doses. Cool

My family is like your's, Angel. We pretty much run while we're young. Very Happy

Our extended family was never close. I've always thought it would be nice to be part of a really close knit family. Not mine, of course, but a normal family....... Wink

Laughing Laughing Normal is all "relative" as you know Cool The things about my family would make a person want to faint or feel like it's all normal. I consider the people who are related by marriage and some who are like 2nd and 3rd cousins family. But that's because my family has never been close and I still retain some "clannish" feelings because I would like to have that closeness. I still get along with my sister very well. Still adore Mom and Dad. Love all my in-laws. Ignored by my brother, and I avoid my paternal gramma. And for good reasons. I like the idea of a close-knit family but I'm content with what I have. Plus, the surrogate family which is here. I'm thankful that I don't have anything to do with my cousins. They are frickin' nut-cases! Cool
