Paul, have no reason to doubt you. As of right now, Bill is not in. If that was CYA from J.J. at Comic Con, oh boy, because he just dug himself a deeper ditch. The other widely traveled Trek boards are abuzz with people thinking now that Shatner will be written in. There didn't seem to be that many people in that room, and there was little reaction when he mentioned William Shatner. Plus this wasn't a media session and was very brief, so I didn't anticipate him getting ambushed. With shooting starting in November, it's kind of odd they haven't cast anybody as Kirk yet. Or what they would be waiting for in trying to write Bill in. I hope for Bill's sake, they don't just come to him with a 5 minute cameo, or as somebody other than James T. Kirk. Although I wouldn't mind a reappearance of Buck Murdock. In any case, I hope they would make a final decision already, because they're leading people on, if there's not going to be a role for Shatner. I really hope they offer something to Bill, so at least he has the option of turning it down. Otherwise, if they keep everyone in the dark, it will be unfair to Bill to have to go around when he makes appearances and be questioned about this when he knows nothing. |

| maybe it's easier knowing nothing so people stop asking questions or maybe they're waiting for casting to finalize the details |

Slashfilm has a clear audio recording of JJ Abrams, Zachary Quinto, and Leonard Nimoy at ComicCon.
Said Abrams: "The thing about casting Trek is, how do you possibly top or even match the cast that was in the original series? That's really where this movie takes place. William Shatner, you know, I've met him a number of times, and he's the greatest. We're desperately trying to figure out a way to put him in this movie. The truth is, it needs to be worthy of him; it needs to be worthy of you; it needs to be worthy of the movie. We can't just shove him in, it would be a disaster. You would hate it, he wouldn't like it, it would be bad. So, we're on that. And we're looking for a Kirk, because that's tough too."

You know what, looking at that photograph, I take back my reservations about Zachary Quinto. He does, indeed, look like Nimoy.
Now, they better get the right guy(s) for Kirk. I still think it may be Matt Damon and Bill. My hunch is, we are being led down the garden path. J.J. Abrams has been busy doing this with his other project, Cloverfield. It gets everyone chatting and anticipating. What better way to get everyone discussing the new Trek movie, than to say that Bill is not in it! |

I wonder if Bill has heard this yet?
LINK:http://trekweb.com/stories.php?aid=46a91d2833af5 | Methinks that someone is finally getting worried about pushing trek fandom too far. Make no mistake, they`ve damn well known all along that trekkers have wanted Bill Shatner resurrected ON SCREEN AS KIRK for years. |

| Abrams says "so we`re on that". Yeah right! paramount hasn`t been on it for the last 13 years! |

You do make me laugh with your continued obsession with manliness, machismo, the butch, the unfeminine, the muscular.... Hmm?
Nah, I am convinced that the new Trek is in good hands. I just don't want the "Younger Years". |

Nah, I am convinced that the new Trek is in good hands. I just don't want the "Younger Years". | But Harry, you must know as I do that a young Kirk couldn`t possibly be taken seriously without manliness and machismo. Come on, Harry, be honest. Hollywood hasn`t exactly been going in that direction over the last 20 years. In fact, I suspect the politically correct mindset played a part in the removal of Kirk in Generations. The new progressive TNG crowd no longer wanted someone as old school (especially when it comes to women) as James T. Kirk in Star Trek. Why has paramount failed to resurrect Bill`s character over the course of the last 13 years, Harry? Paramount knows damn well that trek fandom has been clamoring for it for years. Would not a Trek movie devoted to the resurrection of James T. Kirk played by Bill Shatner have been a mega-blockbuster??? That certainly would have had the effect of breathing new life into Star Trek. Paramount has wasted the last 13 years failing to do the obvious. Harry, don`t you see? That politically correct mindset is still in control at paramount. Everyone knows that a trek movie devoted to the resurrection of Kirk starring Bill would have been nothing less than a blockbuster and yet paramount has failed to do it for 13 years. There are people at paramount who do not want Bill back in Star Trek AS Kirk even if it means killing Star Trek for good, now, why should I as a 1st generation trek fan not be pissed off at that kind of a prevailing attitude at paramount? That is the reason that Star Trek is in the shape it is in TODAY. The 13-year absence of Kirk has made it so. paramount`s failure to resurrect Kirk has brought Star Trek to a standstill. p.s. please note that I use a lower case p when spelling paramount. they don`t rate a capital. |

Ok If this is the new Spock (Zachary Quinto) it is obvious Leonard Nimoy is not playing Spock.
So if William Shatner is in the movie . it wont be as Kirk either:)
Just an observation.
Unless as I suspect it will be a flash back movie:)
well it is as good as other theories being bandied around

To tell you the truth, it doesn't matter to me what the plot is. We can all hazard guesses but I shall wait til the film is in the can and shown in the theaters.
PS I am pleased to see that Quinto was chosen to play the role of Mr Spock. |

I've seen him on myspace campaigning for the role. |
