Post subject: Self Destruction

Last week, a very good friend of mine told me that his oldest daughter, 29 years old, had killed herself, She leaves 3 young children behind.
Apparently, she had spent the night in her house, alone, kids in bed, she'd been drinking after being sober for a few months, again... Went to the basement, got out the shotgun and blew her brains out. She was 29! According to her father, she'd been in and out of the program for years, struggled with sobriety for years, in and out of AA and treatment facilities... It's sad that she never grasped the point that she couldn't drink normally and every time she drank something bad happened, and now this. Her father is one of my best friends, my hero so say the least. To see him like this, really breaks my heart. If you know of anyone or yourself who needs some kind of help, please all it really takes is a strong chair, coffee, ears and a open heart and mind. Alcoholism can be fatal, I am so glad and grateful that I had the gift of desperation to get the help I needed, where I can be who I am today, a productive member of society. Keep my friend in your prayers.

You got my prayers, and prayers for your friend as well.
TG I found AA, or God only knows where I would be right now. I could of been in the same place as your friends' daughter.
It's too bad that only a few grab on to the lifeline that it provides.
Poor girl, and prayers for those children also.
So sorry, so sad.

I am sorry for your heartbreak from the loss of someone close to your heart.
I only wish that more could see the hidden Depression that drives some young people to "self-medicate' instead of receiving the help and heart they so deperately need. It had to be a dark and desperately lonely place to be in...to drive her to so radical a form of release
I will keep her father, who so bravely regained his grasp, only to watch someone he loved,so much, fall prey, within my thoughts
I know you will be there for him and the children..
to lend a shoulder to cry upon and a hand to lift him up from his dispair...
I send you strength and compassion |

I'm so very sorry, Carl. She must have been in such pain, and she left behind even more pain. I wish she would have gotten the help she needed to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Had she'd gotten the help she needed I think she'd be still with us now... Those children need a mother, need her, now I don't know what's going to happen to them now....
I remember when I drank like that, I lashed out at people, trying to drive people away, beating people up, beating yourself up too within, the rage is there.
At least when I was drinking there were no kids involved....  |
