Matt Damon will NOT be Kirk in the new movie. Unfortunately, it looks like they are going for a younger actor, about 20 years old!!!! Now that does not sound like good news. I don't want to see any crap about a young Kirk finding his way in the BIG ol' Universe.

Looking at the TV series JJ does, he tends to use established none leading actors. It is all about money so I bet they will all be of this type:)

Animation is the way they should have gone IMHO we still have many great Trek Voices out there.

Well they did it with the new Doctor Who, so it would be a nice shot though...

I want to see a reboot of the 60's era Trek, with actors that have the gravitas to make it work. I want blue, gold and red uniforms. I want exploration. I want flip-up communicators. I want epic scale the like of which was never affordable on TOS. I want exotic adventures. I want heroism and brotherhood. I want Gary Sinise as Dr. McCoy, who plays a large part in the movie. I DON'T WANT "KIRK & SPOCK: THE EARLY YEARS"!!!

Couldn`t agree with you more, Harry. Unfortunately, paramount has been on a 13 year losing streak with their trek franchise which they`re not likely to break.

If you say it's 13 yrs then maybe they'll break from the format that they've been dishing out all these years. Hollywood types are superstitious. I'm with Harry also. I love Gary Sinise and I want everything to be traditional again, with cutting edge effects *sigh* Sad

I don't think quite enough time as passed between the Nemeis and Enterprise flops and this movie. Plus it's not like the sequels to Rocky, Rambo, Die Hard, Indiana Jones, etc., which still star the original actors. They're also going to turn off a lot of long time fans by casting only Nimoy. We'll see, but I don't know if the general public are going to want to see it? The James Bond analogy is completely wrong, because Connery was replaced twice in 1969 and 1973, still during the height of 007. They've had so many Bond actors that the revolving door has become an accepted part of the franchise. I don't feel Star Trek is the same. Over now 41 years, no Trek character has been played by a different actor in this way. Maybe they used a younger actor for flashbacks, or ST III, and some minor roles were recast, like Dukat's daughter.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Happy days are here again. Cool Cool Cool, Common sense seems to have prevailed. I still think Alex Pettyfer would be a good choice to play a young Kirk and Adrian Brody a young Spock, although they should be secondary roles behind Bill & Leonard.

C'mon JJ, surprise us all. Wink

Absolutely spot-on Grizzlor, Bill has played Kirk for 41 years and Leonard, Spock for 43, therefore as I said, they should still have the primary roles of their characters in the new movie with new actors playing the young Kirk & Spock in either flash-backs or as part of a Time-Travel story, and yes I know some of you will say that has been done to death in Star Trek, but a well written story would still draw in the crowds. Anyway, I'll be able to enjoy the rest of my weekend now knowing Damon isn't going to be playing Kirk. Cool

Do directors even remotely look at our posts? I absolutely agree one-hundred-and-sixty percent with morgram. I think it should go back to the original way things were, especially since it would be appealing to a new set of individuals. I heard somewhere that they're supposedly making this movie where the last one left off, but since ST is appealing to a new set of individuals, they won't understand most of what's been happening if Abrams chooses to continue where the last movie left off, so it kind of forces Abrams to stick to the original. Does anyone get what I'm saying here?

I also don't think that merchandise helps, or if it does, only to a certain extent. There's going to be a lot of ST merchandise out there over the months, especially nearer to Christmas. I've heard that phone companies are coming out with communicator-style flip-top phones. There's Manga that's just been released. There are box-set DVDs. There are freaking ornaments, for God's sake! Did they EVER come out with ornaments!? What I'm saying is, there is going to be a lot of merchandise flying around, and some people might be blinded by all this stuff, instead of realizing the true values and merits of ST. Sure, there will be new members who say they devote themselves to ST, but is it because of the merchandise or because of the actual merits of the show?

I am just seventeen, and quite young compared to most other members, and I might be naive in thinking so, but in a few more months, we're going to get a whole lot more members who say that they love Will, but do they?

Graham, as much as I adore Bill and Leonard, Paramount cannot have them star in a Trek feature film. They're too far out of the saddle, and would do the studio no good. They need a new cast, and while I don't agree with recasting TOS, they should do whatever is necessary to get both men into the film. I still believe Star Trek should remain on Television or Direct to Video. The movie going public are largely sheepish. Star Trek will always have a hard time appealing to the masses, because it deals with real issues, and doesn't use over the top special effects. That said, I think a TV movie along the lines of Tim Russ's fan film would be cool, if they could get Bill and Leonard into it. It would be a Trek reunion type movie, and would be very popular internationally and domestically.
