93 here today, 95 tomorrow, and the chiller at the hospital is running as hard as she can. With half my crew remodeling a clinic in the next county, and 5 major projects the management thinks are 'easy' in progress, I can't get a thing done due to the constant interruptions. Every 10 minutes or so, I hear my name paged overhead...I call, and inevitably I hear someone tell me "We're hot!"
Well, boo hoo. My office is 84 degrees. I work in boiler rooms with no AC, and I'm not complaining.
These inconsiderate spoiled brats whine if the temperature is not exactly 72 degrees.
My concerns are all about the patients. They come first. The elderly lady in room 219 (or wherever) is a heck of a lot more important than some whiny 22 year old receptioist who spends more time talking on the phone to her friends than working. The man in another room who had surgery yesterday needs to be a lot more comfortable than the guy who waxes the floors.
If these people would use some common sense, they might be able to figure out a few things.
1. Opening the blinds to let in light lets in SUNLIGHT...which raises the temperature of the room.
2. Opening the window a crack to let in some 'fresh air' lets in heat.
3. Shutting off that portable heater under the desk (because your feet are cold) would help.
4. A call when the temperature first starts rising would be a LOT better than waiting until 3 PM when it's 80 in the office.
Then there are those ladies who sit in the cafeteria at lunch and whine about being cold. The thermostat is set at 75. Still, no matter how many college degrees they have, they aren't smart enough to move to a table that's NOT sirectly under the AC vent...
Sorry, I just can't understand how so many people think that they can't work without being at the perfect temperature. I know cops who have to wear wool uniforms in the summer. Roofers who are in 120+ temperatures for 10 hours a day. Elderly neighbors who only have a box fan for keeping cool. The whiny brats I work with wouldn't last a day without modern conveniences!
Well, I'm comfortable at home at least. It's about 69 in here with just the old window AC running on low speed, the dogs and cat are sleeping peacefully, and no one is whining about being hot...or cold... |
