Not exactly Margaritaville for this little fella Shocked Sad Thank goodness he turned out ok, afterwards.

ANTIOCH, Calif. - Kim Mayorga was confused when her 2-year-old started making funny faces and pushing away the apple juice he had ordered at Applebee's. The explanation came when she opened the lid of the sippy cup and was hit by the smell of tequila and Triple sec.

The restaurant staff accidentally gave Julian Mayorga a margarita Monday. He grew drowsy and started vomiting a few hours later and was rushed to the hospital.

"I wasn't going to make a big deal about it," the mother told the Contra Costa Times on Thursday, "but then he got sick."

The apple juice and margarita mix were stored in identical plastic bottles, and the manager mistakenly grabbed the margarita container to pour the boy's drink, said Randy Tei, vice president for Apple Bay East Inc., which owns the franchise restaurant and nine other Applebee's in the San Francisco Bay area.

The Mayorgas will be reimbursed for their medical bills, and Tei said the franchise group's restaurants will no longer serve apple juice and margaritas in similar containers.

"We absolutely believe it was an honest mistake," Tei said.

The serving appeared to have been accidental, Antioch police Lt. Pat Welch said. Mayorga said her son is now doing fine.

She said the company has been very apologetic and offered free meals, but she added, "If they think I'm going back there, they're ridiculous."

I'm surprised she's not suing their asses off. The kid could have died.

I've never eaten there, myself, but that's the most inexcusable mistake. People are better off staying at home and eating. The more I hear about eating out and the hazards, plus, from what I've personally seen at places I've worked, the more I feel I'm better off preparing my own suppers.

I'd can that manager. There's no excuse for that mistake.

Years ago a girlfriend and I went to TGIFridays for dinner, and she took her 10 year old daughter, who ordered a strawberry lemonade to drink. We noticed after a while that the girl was flushed and had trouble talking. We checked her drink, and it was rum and some sort of strawberry mixture. Fortunately, the girl didn't become ill.

It's quite easy to end up with an alcoholic beverage anywhere.

I've gotten margaritas when I've ordered the virgin and when I was a kid.

We went to dinner at a nice place and my husband got a hard cider when he ordered a root beer. *After* telling them he was underage! Shocked

My step dad accidentally mixed up our drinks when I was in high school. I got the worst tasting orange juice ever and he got the best tasting screwdriver ever. I took it to my mom after two sips and she thought it was fine. But I still thought the oj had kicked over so I went to my step dad to see if his tasted as rotten. He took one look at my face and figured out what happened. We had a good laugh.

Accidents happen. I'm glad everyone was okay. It was stupid to store them in similar jugs. Glad they've changed it. I'm willing to bet the manager feels awful about it too.

As far as Applebees goes. They've "fixed" the problem, are paying the medical bills, and have offered compensation in proportion to what they have (ie: food). I can't honestly think of anything else they can do at this point. They really stepped up to the plate on this one. Good job!

Accidents do happen and they were willing to make good on them. I was talking to my husband yesterday about it and he said that it was lucky that the chain wasn't sued for a million. I'm not the suing sort. The compensation for med. bills is good enough in my eyes. Some people are happy enough to take people to the cleaners, though. Rolling Eyes

Have you had your "oosiks" today, fellas? This one is sad and funny. I feel bad for the seals. Who wouldn't feel bad for those cuddly-wuddlies, but I'm trying to picture Native art with an "oosik" in it. The images in my mind.. Rolling Eyes Laughing Cool

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Reuters) - An Alaska man has pleaded guilty to selling more than 100 fur seal "oosiks" -- or penises -- to a local gift shop that intended to sell the items as an aphrodisiac.

Michael Richard Zacharof, an Aleut and former tribal president from the Bering Sea village of St. Paul, pleaded guilty this week to one count of violating the Marine Mammal Protection Act.

Federal law forbids the sale of any raw marine mammal parts unless they have been crafted into pieces of Alaska Native artwork.

In Zacharof's case, the former tribal leader sold the raw seal penises to a gift shop catering to customers from Asia. The shop then sold the items for about $100 each, according to the Justice Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrea Steward said seal penis bones, also known as seal sticks, are believed to have properties similar to erectile dysfunction drugs like Viagra.

Zacharof faces a possible one-year prison term and a $20,000 fine, the U.S. Attorney's office said.
