Just got a call. Bob is safe and sound in Sicily. The professor he is working with assured me, he would take care of him. The professor is Sicilian and knows the area very well.

And, like a dutiful husband, he left me a booklet (or so it seems) of instructions for what to do if the well stops pumping, how to start the generator if the power goes out, and where the shot gun and ammo is just in case...

Frankly, I think he is afraid that I will get rid of his favorite bunny slippers Twisted Evil His slippers are safe; however, those holely T-shirts are going bye bye. Smile Wink

Whereabouts in Sicily is he? I've spent quite a bit of time there and it's a beautiful island...tell him to make sure he has brioche and granita for breakfast!

Hi Greenchick,

Bob and the students are basing out of Agriturismo Budicari Strada provinciale Allume near Roccalumera. The excavation site (Castello) is in Fiumedinisi.

Before he left, Bob got his International Driver's license. He is taking some time to get used to the roads over there. As he said in an email,
Quote:
You wouldn't believe the road to the site. It makes "Oh my GOD! road and that road in North Carolina look like pikers. EXTREMELY narrow, super winding, hanging over cliffs, you name it!!!

Note: "Oh my God Road" is an actual road in Colorado and the road he is refering to in North Carolina is one we took when we went rock-hounding. It requires four-wheel drive.

He has already been sampling the food over there and in his words,
Quote:
The food is everything I've heard.
I'll ask him about the brioche and granita.

It should prove to be a good experience for Bob and the students. In his words,
Quote:
Being here is VERY different.. completely different culture! It's interesting being the person who doesn't speak the language.

Cool

Would Bob be able to show some pictures of the dig and make a few comments about the excavation site, if he's at one, and what he experienced? Or you for him? I'd really like to see and here about it. It's always been one of my interests. Very Happy Very Happy Cool Cool

I sure can as soon as he sends some. I believe the actual field school starts Monday, and if I know him, he probably has already taken a ton of photos. I am hoping that sometime during the weekend, we will get the chance to see if the Skype works good. Bob put it in my computer before he left. I told him I guess that means I can't be on the computer while in my underwear anymore. Laughing

In the meantime, I am keeping busy learning the software and scripting for a new client at work.

Oh, I envy Bob. What a wonderful experience. I look forward to hearing about his trip, and seeing the pics.

Please tell him good luck from all of us!

Yay! Can't wait for the pictures! Not the underwear ones! Save those for you and Bob! I'm assuming that Skype thingy is a video camera to talk to eachother with? I'm still trying to progress from the Bronze age Mr. Green Laughing Laughing

Yep. Skype is a way to communicate through the computer and there is a small camera attached. I wish I had had it when Oprah was doing the New Earth online class. I would have loved to have talked to Eckhart Tolle. He is one cool dude.

That's a pretty heavy thinker there! And that would have been a really cool thing for you to do! Very Happy Very Happy I can sometimes think heavy thoughts but after a while I tend to bog down too much. Makes my mind go all fuzzy. Laughing Laughing Sometimes I try to wrap my mind around anthropology and Egyptology. I've always enjoyed those subjects. But there's one time only that I would have wanted to have that video thingy on the computer and tuned into Oprah. When Tom Cruise was treating that couch like a trampoline! I would have wanted to say "Dude! You're in your mid-forties and your jumping up and down on a couch! What's your deal, man?!?" That's when I would have liked to have done that....that and talk to my sister when she was living in Utah. Cool Cool

Got a new email today.

Hensci Beautiful!

I don't know if you've been getting my emails. I have very limited email access, and I think that roadrunner is blocking the school again. Please let me know if you got them. If not, I'll re-send.

I will be emailing once a week. Let me know how everything is going by replying to this email. I don't trust the school system yet.

I'm doing OK. I will send more details later- in a rush. Getting ready to go see ancient sites. Finally started work at the castle.

Feeling good. Much exercise- climbing steep roads, walking, etc. Getting along great with people!

Love you and miss you!!!

Feke Cate
