Old William Shatner Main Discussion - We Need Advise *(fun)*

Post subject: We Need Advise *(fun)*
OK, trivial stuff and it's a fun argument we're having. C wants to re-do my bedroom. The bedroom, soon to be our bedroom. I have no problem with it, except.....

Action figures are staying, and I've agreed to move all the con autographs to one alcove wall where I have my reading chair.
The framed stooges poster is coming down, I'll give her that.
Yeah, my bedroom is pretty much the same as my college dorm looked.

I have no problems with a new coat of paint, curtains, bedspreads etc. (As long as they aren't floral)

Here's the sticker.
Life size cardboard Bogart. He's been hanging around for years.
Bogart's my hero since I was a kid, and I've sort of gotten used to getting up and saying "Mornin' Bogie".

I don't mean she just wants him out of the bedroom, she wants him gone. Says it creeps her out.

I'd move him to the garage, but it's even worse in the dark.
Sort of like when the kids used to leave life size Barbie at the bottom of the cellar stairs.

So, what do you think?
Anyone have a need for a life size cardboard cutout of Humphrey Bogart?
He stays or goes?

Your decision is what we've agreed to go by. Wink

DO NOT...I repeat...DO NOT get rid of the Bogie Standup...it's gonna be worth MONEY, MAN...Somebody STOLE my Elvira ones that she gave me.

YOU NEED A MAN DEN...if you have to build your own SHED or get a PREFAB
You need to have a space for all your toys and stuff...because believe me...
more will be asked to be removed over time...I'm speaking as a TRUTHFUL woman.

keep it. Just not in the bedroom.

My husband has all kinds of memorabilia from before we were married. some of it is even from his previous marriage. If I couldn't make certain items work in our decor (which is very laidback) I went into either his home office in the basement or the workshop/furnace room which is also in the basement.

after I charge my camera battery, I'll snap a pic.. might only get to that tomorrow though

Hey Littlestar,
In re-reading this post, Elvira gave you her own stand-ups?
Now that's a story worth hearing.........

As a soon to be married couple, your bedroom should focus on you and C and become a special and intimate haven where your relationship will grow.

I wouldn't get rid of the Bogie Standup or your other memorabilia, just find another room for it.... one that can be your own personal space. I am sure the C will want the same for her own personal space.

At any rate, I don't think that either of you should give up your individual items, unless it is something that you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you can part with and have no regrets.

I still have a framed picture of Elvis, plus a large collection of his albums and a scarf. Cool

I agree with Littlestar. Here's a good question: Is she willing to give up things that YOU don't like? My guess is that you probably don't have a problem with anything of hers...which makes me wonder. Is this just a small step to changing you? What's next? Don't see this friend, don't hang with that person, wear these clothes, dump this hobby, motorcycles are too dangerous and the insurance is expensive, and so on. I'm seeing a red flag...but then again, I'm on PCP and I'm seeing a lot of stuff.

I can't understand why Bogey is creepy or weird. It's seems a little childish to me. Let's hope this isn't just the tip of the iceberg. So many of my friends have been relegated to the shed, hence the term, "Shedophile". But don't make a sign and put that on your shed. Some people didn't see the humor.

I think that's a very cool poster! It's noir! It's stylin! It's hep!

If you had a former dog, stuffed and sitting on the coffee table, I'd understand, but the poster seems trivial. She's gonna have to cut you some slack for the things that give you joy in your life.

Well J_T, everyone has their hang-ups about what creeps them out. I could have said something to hubby when he decided to name our first daughter after a girl he knew in HS. I'm still wondering about that. On the other hand though, I choose to change the one letter of her name from Linda to Lynda...besides Lynda is my middle name. Hehe.

And I agree too that is if you have to give up some stuff then she does too...

I wish I had all my Star Wars first edition 12 inch Action figures...some are now worth over $100 each...I do have my AT- AT walker, even tho it's in bad shape and my Y- wing........and my Dewback and Trooper...

You found a good solution to that! What if she has a problem with the talkies and wants the "all-talking moving pictures" to be removed from the house. The Captain and his kids will be stuck with watching silents for the rest of their lives. It's tough to force people to be pre-1920's. If they want to convert, that's O.K..

I think that's the problem with Bogey. He was in those talkies and it's giving her the heebie-jeebies.

I don't know, but I might have a problem with Bogey in the bedroom while I slept. But then I imagine all inanimate objects coming to life and eating the few brain cells I have left, so I could be biased. Or, if he was brought into the bed during "intimacy" I might get creeped out, or perhaps I'd be into it, it would depend on how much tequila I had consumed.......

But you should be able to keep him somewhere. I'd say in the bathroom, but having Bogey watch you tinkle might feel rather odd. Compromise by moving him out of the bedroom, but keeping him somewhere else in the house?

Just when I think you're getting serious....... Laughing

Shedophilia will never become a problem, although I do like the idea of a den. Three options, storage room over the garage, large enough and isolated. Garage itself, always wanted to lay down a rubber floor and put in a bike lift, and I can smoke cigars out there. Or rec room in the cellar, although the kids still use it to watch TV and play pool. Going to work on it over the weekend.

No, I haven't asked her to give anything up, and I don't plan too.

As for hobbies and such, I might bend on a few things but never break. Although she doesn't like the bikes, they're here to stay and I plan on adding an ATV soon. She knows that and excepts it. It's who I am. Bowling night with the guys Friday stays. Clothing? She already tells me what to wear, but I don't mind. Laughing She has better taste.

She has her friends that I don't care for, I deal, and she deals with mine. We have quite a few friends that we both like, so not too bad.

As for Bogie, he's moving to where ever I decide the den will be, but he stays.

Let me draw your attention to the top shelf from left to right: train lantern, filter attachment for a Kirby vacuum; an old fan; a glass insulating thingy from the top of an electrical pole; no clue what the thing in the middle is... ; a copper tea kettle; a motorcycle clock; a brass coffee perculator; and another glass insulator thingy.

On the far left, a 4"x4" B&W TV from 20 years ago that runs on battery or from your car cigarette lighter.

On the far right, annual family Thanksgiving Day photo... That is the Canadian Flag hanging on the far right.

wait wait. not finished.

and that's enough for now... but he's a packrat; but at least I've organized it for him so that it's not as bad as "Hoaders"... but it was... It's taken years to widdle down the bric a brac.

Hey Debb, is that garage or basement?

I'm sort of leaning toward the garage. I already put heat out there and an old recliner would be nice. Rubber mat flooring a good coat of paint, and I could hang out and watch football with the computers, the flat screen and the bikes. Nothing like the smell of exhaust, oil and cigar smoke.....

I always thought I'd have my own space when the kids left, just didn't plan back then on adding someone before they left. Always thought once they left home, I'd be here alone. This is so much better.
