I went to see 'Shutter Island' on it's opening day yesterday evening:

...and what a terrific psychological thriller it turned out to be!

Despite the impression some of the trailers might give, this is *not* a horror film ...rather, it's a thinking-person's mystery story, the likes of which - were you reading it in book form - you would not be able to stop turning the pages until you finished the final chapter.

Great performances (Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Kingsley, Max von Sydow, Ted Levine), top-notch direction (Martin Scorsese) and wonderful 'period' cinematography (the fictional story is set in 1954) combined to easily make this one of the best movies that I've seen in a long time ...or, put another way, it's one of those movies when you find yourself not wanting to get up for a restroom break halfway through it for fear of missing even a single minute, because virtually each and every scene is a gem that's intergral to the overall story ...especially when you get to the final ending twists (anyone who goes to see this for the first time should resist the temptation to expose themselves beforehand to anything that gives away how the story ends).

The critics are falling all over this one with their praise and - after having seen it - I completely agree with every positive 'two thumbs up' review that's out there. This is a 'must see' that doesn't disappoint!

Good review, thanks for that.

Based on the cheesy trailer and the bad name, I would've never seen it.
It's back on the list.

Hey, don't go letting something like an amateur online movie review come between you and your self-expression ...after all, what the heck do I know?

Seriously though...are you telling me it isn't Paranormal in any way ?

Getting the answer to that question by watching the movie is half the fun...

Cool

Shocked

tons of commercials here for this movie....looks like a horror movie inthe trailers but people say it's not that...

Not my kind of movie but it looks like an intense one...

Thanks for the review Teclaydon!

Oldest daughter just called to tell me they are on their way to the 7pm showing. I'm sure I'll hear all about it in a few hours.
Won't let her ruin the ending for me though....... Laughing

When I found out it was based on a book by the Dennis Lehane who wrote "Mystic River" and "Gone, Baby, Gone" I knew I had to see it.

Yeah she really liked it, recommended highly.
Took this long to have a conversation with her.
Between her schedule and mine, I never see the kid.
