William Shatner Main Discussion - I had a fantastic weekend

I finally came in for a landing from the Shatner Weekend.... of course the plane landed last night.... I'm just catching up. Laughing

I learned some valuable lessons this weekend.

1. Airports, no matter how big or small, can be intimidating to folks who do not fly too often. And why is it, that connecting flights always seem to be scheduled to take off at the opposite end of the airport? Shocked If I come next year, I am going to splurge on a non-stop to LAX, first class. Cool

2. I discovered a new time zone in this country. It is the "fluid- Shat zone." Very exilerating for those who know how to "hang ten and ride the wave." Razz

3. The Hollywood Charity Horseshow and dinner dance is the best place to rub elbows with some terrific people who all have a common goal of helping children in need. There are opportunities for everyone to give something... from the "big buck" hitters to those who are generous with what little they have. If you have never seen Piper perform, you are missing a real treat from a precious child who will steal your heart in half a beat. Cool

4. I think that Hollywood must be the one place where there are a lot of walking accidents. What I mean is, everyone is walking along looking at the stars on the walk of fame and not paying attention to where they are going. "Klunk, bang."

5. As a TV baby-boomer, it was terrific to take a peak behind the scenes of the making of a show. A special thanks to the crew of Boston Legal for allowing us to tour the sets, and to Bill for making it possible to watch a taping. (I will never forget the look on that poor little girl's face ) I hope we didn't disturb the process too much.

6. For what it is worth and if by chance you read this Bill, you have my solemn promise that if I ever see you in an airport, restaurant, or other public place: out of my deep respect for you, I will NOT flag you down.

A great big thank you to Jane and Sandy for putting together a great adventure.

I really hope to have the chance to go next year. I tried joining the fan club, but it wouldn't work. Will have to try again and go next year! Glad you had fun and I'm so jealous you saw a taping...

It was fun. There were folks running around the Kodak Theater dressed as all sorts of characters. There was an Elvis (good, but I actually got to meet the real Elvis years ago) There were at least two Jack Sparrows running around… now they impressed me as having the character down pretty good. And then there was a tallest Yoda I have ever seen. Laughing

I really enjoyed the Kodak Theater. Now I can say that I have been on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, and on the stage of the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. Cool That is as close to fame as I will ever get. Laughing Wink

I will post more of my experience as my brain slowly readjusts back into my head. Wink

Hi Sue,

Sounds like the weekend and trip was surely a 'great adventure' for you...Airports have been doing that for some time...as in making sure folks get lots of exercise from one concourse to another...Wouldn't it be great to have a skateboard that lifts off like Michael J. Fox in 'Back to the Future', sounds good to me! Anyway, glad your home safe and sound and will be watching for your report of your time at the weekend...Take Care! Very Happy

Too bad we don't have the ability to simply beam folks somewhere.
Laughing Wink But, I guess then it wouldn't be a adventure.

There are so many little things about the weekend that were special. It will take a while to share them all.

Something I noticed during our photo ops with Bill was a young lady who was talking quietly, but distinctly on her cell phone, "It's William Shatner, you gotta get over here!" I couldn't help but smile a bit.

I had made a personal choice not to bring a camera. At the dinner dance, I am sure there were many celebrity folks, some I recognized, others I didn't, but that's ok. Everyone seemed to be relaxed and just being themselves. That was a much more powerful experience than trying to take any photos. It is hard to explain the feeling so you'll just have to trust me.

I'll share more as time goes on.

Hi,

My sister and I had a fantastic weekend too.

We travelled across the pond to be with everyone, and Jane and Sandy made it very special again, my thanks to them and Everyone at Raleigh studios who made the visit to the Boston Legal set possible, although I think Bill Shatner had most to do with this, as I also witness the young girls face when he mentioned the possilblity of us going on the live set!

Seeing and meeting new faces was wonderful, people from Germany, Canada and Australia and America as of course we come from the Uk.

Thanks to everyone for making this visit so special.

It was great seeing Joyen again and meeting Sue for the first time. I had a great time hanging out with the fan club members.

As I keep saying to fans who are disillusioned with the convention cattle calls - the Shatner weekend is what you need to attend!

Conventions are great to hear stories and to meet friends and hang out but if you want an experience of a lifetime the weekend is for you.

The only sad note of the trip is learning that they are still waiting to see if BL will be picked up next season. I wonder if we fans could convince the powers that be to keep the show alive, just like we convinced the LiveVision folks to keep ShatnerVision alive. We could always threaten them with "mad cow manure," but perhaps the honey of a billion letters would be better. Cool
