See all that? That's headin' my way. I'm in the central part of Oklahoma and there's two sections that could but most likely not hit us. Most of it'll slide to the north of us and the rest to the south. There've been tornadoes on the ground off and on for the past hour. Fun fun fun! Got the closet cleaned out and loaded with the blankies and a radio, got a shelter up the street we can hop into if we have time. Most of the time things get a little scary here but alot of the times we don't have any problems. I haven't ever seen a tornado hit the middle of the town and I've lived here 20yrs. There's always a first time but I doubt it's today. angel - Mar 03, 2008 - 06:18 AM Post subject:
Good news! The cold front that's behind this line is killing the storms. 30 degree drop in temps behind the line. Bad news is it's going to be 35 degrees tomorrow for the high w/ snow. Amazing isn't it? Whoops! Spoke too soon. All the storms to the north are pooping out but there's a cell south of here that's moving up towards us. We will see. vampyregirl - Mar 03, 2008 - 10:19 AM Post subject:

We did good over here! Just a lot of wind, rain, and lightning. There was a small touch down in the city but no one was hurt and the rest of the touchdowns were in rural areas. Damage done to some structures. That's our first ones of the season. Now it's 34 degrees, the wind is fierce and we're supposed to get snow later in the afternoon with icey roads. Gotta get the groceries today. You be careful too on those roads w/ that little scooter and the ice! Good luck on the voting! DianaG - Mar 03, 2008 - 11:48 PM Post subject:
Glad you are safe Angel and damage was minimal in your town. Here in our State it is Tornado preparedness Week. I hate tornadoes!!!
Those storms your getting are heading my way later today and they are giving warnings here already and then we're going to get whapped with snow tomorrow...When will winter end?
I've got my flower pots seeds and growing medium here on my counter so I can see it every day and get ready to plant when it's warm enough.
Planting marigolds, and getting new rose plants when they get them shipped here.

Thanks, DianaG! You stay safe too! And bundle up when that snow hits you. We're supposed to get maybe 1-2 inches this afternoon. It's not easy living in Tornado Alley is it? And them poor folks out east! I love the excitement as you can tell and I guess it makes me look like a looney to get all jazzed about it every year, but I really pray and worry for people and their property. I wish that the twisters only hit open areas but it doesn't always happen that way.
I'll hoping that Spring will have finally sprung before too long and that you can enjoy planting your pretty flowers! I'm thinking I'll stop being cheap this season despite living at a rent house and spend some money on some flower pots and some pretties, myself. I'm thinking ....hmm...petunias and some purslane. And maybe some strawberry plants. vampyregirl - Mar 04, 2008 - 11:37 AM Post subject:
We're getting your storm-thingy now. Started out as rain, then sleet. Then all snow. Just enough to cover the grass. That's supposed to go on throughout the night, and tomorrow morning. Then we're getting a big break in the precipitation. After midnight Tuesday (so, reeeeealllly early Weds), it's supposed to turn to mostly snow, with some freezing rain mixed in. Weather man said if it happens to stay all snow, we'll be getting 9 1/2 inches by Weds, 7am!!!!!! That be a lot for an overnight thing here!!!!!!
All this as el-destructo is demolishing a stuffed animal on the couch next to my desk..... Rotten puppy!!!!! There's stuffing everywhere!!!!!!SMB - Mar 04, 2008 - 12:10 PM Post subject:
I am glad to hear that you are ok Angel! Hope things are ok for you too DianaG and vampyregirl.Cuzsis - Mar 04, 2008 - 12:51 PM Post subject:
Very glad not to be living in tornado country anymore (MN, WI for me). It's pretty rare we get them on this side of the Cascades, and almost unheard of to get them in the mountain area where I live.
I guess we kind of make up for it with earthquakes and 70-90mph windstorms that go on for hours. Not too many volcanoes thankfully.
I wonder, in all of my study, I haven't heard anything of what the Native Americans on the plains used to think/say about tornadoes. I mean, other than the obvious of course. angel - Mar 04, 2008 - 10:13 PM Post subject:
Oops! Sorry Vampyregirl! About the stuffed toy and the weather! Stay warm and stay safe!
Thanks, Sue Marie! Sunny and in the 40's today!
That's strange, Cuzsis! I can't find a reference to tornadoes in my encyclopedia of world mythology, also. Thunderbird is mentioned and various gods for snow, winds, and rain....hmmm. I guess the only thing the natives of the plains could say was "Holy crap! Hit the dirt and hold on tight!" I'm going to have to study up on this more! This is an interesting thing to think about! There may be some references about them from Eastern Oklahoma. angel - Mar 05, 2008 - 05:03 AM Post subject:
Ah Ha! Found it, Cuzsis! I searched under Native American tornado myths and it came up on a site that has a story told by a guy from Oklahoma. His family has NA in them of course. I knew that probably the one source of the myth would come from a Native Oklahoman. Here's the site!

It's here!!!!! Freezing rain pounding on the window as I type!!! Good thing I got my errands done before it started!! Bad thing is, I have to go to work tonight....
We're now supposed to get about 1/2 inch of ice, followed by about 4 inches of snow. It will be a fun drive home in the morning!!! NOT!!!!!!! Good thing I have a 4x4!!! It'll provide a little bit of help--nothing really works good on ice.
Looking out my window, I see the neighbor across the street scraping ice off his car. It's only been sitting out there for about an hour!!!!! My next door neighbor has his car parked in front of my house. It's covered in ice. I'm soooooooo glad I have a garage to park in!!!!
I promise to be careful going to and from work overnight!!! I also promise to stop in the empty parking lot at the end of my street and do a donut!!!! angel - Mar 05, 2008 - 06:07 AM Post subject:
Oh dear! Do be careful going about today! Eat a donut for us, too. Here's a picture I've got as my wallpaper on the old computer now. Standard Windows picture but pretty. It helps to look at that while I'm waiting for Spring to finally get here.
