London (ANI): Monday, February 11 2008

William Shatner, who played Captain James Kirk in Star Trek, has confessed that he has never watched the TV show or any of the spin-off movies that propelled him to fame. The 76-year-old actor refuses to watch himself onscreen because he believes ‘(he) sucks" at acting in the popular sci-fi series.

"I never watched Star Trek and I have not even seen any of the Star Trek movies. I don't watch myself. When I direct and have to look at filmed scenes of myself, I suck," the Mirror quoted Shatner, as saying. However, on his Internet blog Shatner regrets failing to lift any memorabilia from his days on set. "I've kept nothing. Given the choice at the time of having a Star Trek shirt or a designer suit, I'd have taken a suit. I should have known better," he stated on his blog.

I don't believe it....

Also 'cause in some Star Trek DVD releases there are special editions where Bill comments the movie scenes with his voice... (for example the Vth)

Of course he wasn't/isn't a fan. He's an actor who was in it !

The very definition of "fan" precludes him from being one.

I don't think that's all that uncommon... I think the only Star Trek regular who's actually a Trek fan is probably Wil Wheaton. Mr. Shatner's perspective, in terms of simply not being a fan of the show, I think is fairly standard.

George Takei is fanatically enthusiastic about all things Trek. Nichelle Nichols has always spoken fondly too.

Mr. Nimoy also speaks very fondly about the franchise. I wasn't necessarily commenting on whether they appreciate it or not.

While it's hard to know the mind of another person, I think what I was observing that the only Trek regular that I can think of that is actually a fan of the show (the way I am, for instance) and watches them regularily is Wil Wheaton, although I definately could be wrong.

On an aside, I saw Wil Wheaton speak at PAX last year in Seattle. He gave the key-note address to the convention and it was awesome. He really is a dork, just like me.

During one of his appearances on the Howard Stern Radio Show I heard Bill say with his own lips that he wasn't a Star Trek fan and never watched it.
So, like Doc said, this is old news.
