SIGNING AWAY IN LA

Fan Club On Sunday, March 17th, William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy made an appearance at a local music store called FYE in Century City, California and signed copies of Mind Meld: Secrets Behind the Voyage of a Lifetime. For nearly two hours, they posed, they signed, they smiled...for the press...for the fans...for the store personnel...for the security guards...for the staff.

The press turned out in exceptionally large numbers. There were so many that they had to be escorted into the store in small groups. Bill and Leonard took the cameras and the flashes all in stride and joked with each other between shots. They seemed to be having a good time.

In a moment of silliness, Leonard turned on Bill and demonstrated his mind meld technique perfected through the years (which upon reflection looks more like the Vulcan death grip). Every photographer that had the good fortune of being there for those 10 seconds snapped away. As Leonard lowered his hand, he turned to Bill and said, "That's the one they'll probably end up using." And he was right!

Enter the fans, many fans, hundreds of fans. They came in a steady stream, one by one filing past Leonard and Bill with their copies of Mind Meld and their prized memorabilia ranging from photos to books to wall-sized posters to Trek teddy bears. Bill and Leonard saw a little bit of everything that day. Left, check out Bill's new technique of juggling two different colored markers simultaneously!

Halfway through the signing, Lisabeth stopped by to see her dad and Leonard and posed with them briefly.

The afternoon was a big success. Bill and Leonard seemed to enjoy it as much as the fans. The depth of their friendship was clearly visible to everyone that had the opportunity to attend.
