Ruby and Liz

Have you ever had an experience you couldn't quite explain? A feeling that something might happen, and then it actually occurred? A thought about a friend and a few minutes later that person calls you? A nagging idea that you've been someplace even though you've never actually visited that particular location? These less-than-typical events make up the stuff that fascinates me. I guess you could say I'm a fan of the paranormal.

I'm not exactly sure when this fascination started. My family always referred to me as "the sensitive one." I would laugh louder, cry harder, get more upset than pretty much anyone else in any given situation. That was just me. But I always had the sensation there was more to life than what the human eye could perceive. I loved reading stories about ghosts, aliens with special telepathic powers, and other paranormal events. Truly, it was one of my favorite subjects that I never tired of researching.

Kyle and Liz

As I got older, this fascination only deepened. I started going to psychics, and even became close friends with one. His name is Kyle Matthews, and I was able to talk about psychic phenomenon in great detail with him. Kyle believes the aura around a person can reveal his characteristics and behavior. According to him, auras surround a person's body, and can have several color "rings" to them - colors such as blue, green, red, tannish-gold, each having a particular characteristic associated with it. He also believes that every person has a guardian angel that it is possible to meet in meditation.

When I became involved with the website, I really wanted to explore the area of paranormal activity further. I actually based my interactive murder mystery "Ruby" on the life of my friend, Kyle. He has had many, many unusual events happen to him, and it seemed like a great source of drama and intrigue for a character. Thus, the main character, Ruby, was born.

I've been working with a wonderful team at Creative Light, who were responsible for bringing the successful online soap opera, "The Spot" into being. They loved the idea of a psychic "webisode," and have been instrumental in the creation of "Ruby." We often spend time speculating how powerful psychic phenomenon really is in our lives.

It's a wonderful feeling to be able to write about something so near and dear to my heart. I'm having a great time writing "Ruby," and got a huge kick out of bringing Kyle to one of the recent video tapings.

My Dad as Dr. Jasper Horton

I've also had the special treat of having my Dad appear in a couple of the episodes. Even though he professes disbelief in psychic phenomenon, my Dad listens in fascination any time a story of a psychic event unfolds. Personally, I think he's a closet believer. Maybe that's why he gave such a convincing performance as Dr. Jasper Horton, a Doctor of Parapsychology, who helps Ruby in a time of need. See for yourself.

In the end, I guess everyone has to decide for himself what to believe. In my case, I'm leaving the door wide open.
