As some of you might have heard by now, GoldenPalace.com has bought a kidney stone of mine for $75,000.  |
| I was delighted to be able to raise that kind of money for Habitat for Humanity along with contributions from the cast of Boston Legal who gave a gift on behalf of the whole Boston Legal company to Habitat. That entire contribution of $95,000 has allowed us to sponsor a complete house to be pre-fabbed in Los Angeles, shipped to Louisiana, and occupied by a family that at this moment is unknown. But Habitat for Humanity will send us continuing information (pictorial and verbal) about how the house is doing and the family that gets to occupy it?in effect Adopt-a-House. That?s a strategy that?s being suggested to Habitat as a marketing device for many of their houses. Why not collect a large or small group of people whose collective contribution would then sponsor a house in the same manner we just did and have a continuing relationship with that house via pictures, et al?
It was a painful experience to being with but a very gratifying one in the end. No pun intended. |

Knowing that you turned a very painful personal medical experience into a beacon of light for others in need is very heart warming.
Maybe your kidney stone will not turned into a "diamond" at hight temperature, as you commented on the Habitat for Humanity website, but you have a heart of gold.
I also think that your idea to get a group of people together for contributions for sponsoring a new house is very good.
I hope that you will not suffer from any more stones (as profitable as they may be for charity).
Wish you well.
Claudia.

I am glad that your physical pain has been turned into a physical hope for some one else, but that it is the last time you will have to use that kind of a pain for good.
I know your fonation will help a very needy family right now and that they will have a blessing from the donation and use the house well. I also pray that God will put a blessing on you for what you have done!!!

I'm sorry that you had a kidney stone, Mr. Shatner. My husband has been through three and I know how painful they can be. I'm glad you have been able to turn such a painful experience into something good. Habitat for Humanity is one of my favorite charities.
I found your website today because I was watching my "Mind Meld" tape and started to wonder if you had an official site.

Kidney Cash
Some third world residents find cash in their kidneys, selling one of them to live. Fame has brought you the ability to sell uric, acidic waste to help "our" third world residents without them having to resort to "selling their kidneys". There's some irony there somewhere.
Denny Crane could find a case. Kidneys... third world poverty... it's all there except a smoking gun.
Without a doubt, you and James Spader are absolute magic on "the" show. It's your best work and my absolute favorite. The writers are fantastic, and I can't say enough how much I enjoy Boston Legal.

Dear Bill,
I'm so sorry you had to go through such a painful experience, and am happy to see that you are now feeling well. It almost seems like it was worth the pain, as now a small piece of it will ease someone else's. Who would have thought there was someone out there willing to pay top dollar for a kidney stone? On second thought, nevermind :-D You and the rest of the "Boston Legal" cast have my praises for your generous contributions to Habitat for Humanity. Keep up the good work on the show!

Mr. Shatner, I was truly touched to hear about the difference you are making in the lives of some of our truly unfortunate. Whenever I see someone take massive action to solve problems instead of simply waiting for (or demanding) handouts, it reminds me of how blessed we all are to live in the greatest country the world has ever known.
This is one of those times when I am proud to be an American.

I've dealt with Habitat for Humanity here in Las Vegas as well and have seen the families helped. I can imagine that in Lousiana after the tragedy of this past year, the lucky family's appreciation cannot be measured. I'm not quite sure how exactly one DISPLAYS William Shatner's kidney stone, but what the heck... there must be an audience out there somewhere! Ha, ha!
