It?s hard to believe it?s already March and time to start thinking about my Dad?s birthday. Each year my first thought is always slightly panicked ? what to get the man who already has so much? Then I realize that my panic is unnecessary ? my Dad doesn?t really care about all that stuff. What he really loves is time spent with his family ? his wife, his children, grandchildren, and assorted pets. Put us all together and is quite a large bunch. But that?s exactly what he wants -- more love to go around. Because that?s the kind of birthday that really means something to him.

Of course, it?s hard for me to believe he?s really another year older. He still acts so much like the Dad of my childhood ? riding motorcycles, scuba diving, skiing. The man is way more active than I am and that?s no exaggeration. Hey, maybe I?M the one that?s aging, not him! I wonder if he?ll ever slow down. A big part of me hopes he won?t ? he?s become such a symbol of youth to me. That might seem ironic since I?m supposed to be the younger one here. But he has such a love of life and is so open to new experiences that he will remain ever young in my book. So his birthday is really just another opportunity for me to celebrate his amazing spirit.

What to get the man that has everything? Bill has been truly blessed with the love of family and friends. There is no greater gift. Even though all of us here are the BBS are so far removed from Bill, we still whole heartedly celebrate with him his life and his dedication to his causes that has brought all of us together. A gift to us, this website, that has grown into a family.

What a lovely message, Lisabeth. My sisters and I are currently planning a family get-together to celebrate our mother's 75th birthday so my mind has been going down a similar path. Having us all together is the gift she'll enjoy most (and it will be quite an accomplishment, involving people traveling from California, Michigan, Illinois, and Florida). If we get a family picture out of it, all the better!

To Lisabeth - I understand your feelings about seeing Dad get older. Being one in my mid-thirties I still think of my parents being in their forties, until I start to seriously think about it. (My folks can't be in the their fifties - they're my parents!) :-)

Have an absolutely fantastic and Happy Birthday. You have meant so much to me and my family. I met you with my beloved daughter Cassi at a Chicago convention several years ago. You were so nice to her and aside from all the wonderful tv and movie memories, the o­ne of you taking some time to speak directly to her, saying what a cute little girl she was will standout in my mind forever. My cute little girl is now a 15 year old cheerleader, hip hop dancer and honor student.
Thank you for giving me a memory that both my daughter and I will cherish forever.

Happy Birthday Bill
Captain James T Kirk and Star Trek:TOS have brought me many years of pleasure. I have most TV episodes on video and all movies on DVD. Whenever I feel down, out come the DVD's to transport me to my favourite universe.
Have just started reading your latest book 'Captain's Blood', having so enjoyed all your previous books. Please keep on writing!!!
My husband of 28 years, Philip, took me on a 256 mile round trip on Saturday to Hay-on-Wye in Wales. It's called the 'Town of Books' having 38 new & secondhand bookshops, where I bought 23 ST:TOS books to add to my collection. Now have 166 books and need only 20 more to have complete set. Years of wonderful reading!

We have seen the reruns of Star Trek again and again, and want to thank you and the cast for the enjoyment it has given to all of us! My oldest brother is a VERY big fan of yours, do you plan o­n travelling to the Beautiful Berkshires this summer? I would of got o­n here sooner,but i've been in the hospital for several weeks,i just got out yesterday.I know how important family is with my Severe Lupus and kidney disease and other health problems i have and o­nly being 31 it's my family that keeps me going and the love of my 11 yr old daughter. I am o­ne of your biggest Fans,I have watched Star Treck since i was a little girl and all your movies,when times get rough which they often do all i do is watch o­ne of your movies and it uplifts my spirit.I'm a nature lover too,I love the ocean and every thing about it.I'm also a former pro Barrell racer,though with my health problems i haven't competed in several yrs.I miss owning a horse and riding it was o­ne of my favorite things to do.I wish you and your family all the best.You are a big inspiration to me.My greatest wish is that o­ne day i can meet you in person.My best wishes to you and your family.

It is way past your dad's birthday now, May 11. I am just using this device as a way of making a statement about your father in the hope that you will appreciate it and that he will somehow see it.
I'm 56. The first time I actually saw and remember William Shatner, I was doing a tedious college play, Love For Love , and was frantically changing Period costumes o­n a Friday night. Startrek was just starting up.
It was Episode o­ne.
And There He Was!
In no time at all, Startrek became my "Must See" TV. But I kept doing plays, so, in reality I o­nly saw Startrek for the first year in a sort of Herky Jerky manor, bits and pieces between scenes, during costume changes, any way I could., but never in full context.
Still, I loved it anyway, and my friends filled me in anyway, and revealed a heroic, drunken narrative which elevated Kirk to the status of chief Viking week after week.
Later o­n, as I grew, and Star Trek evolved, faded, and returned years later as full length film, I continued to admire the heroic figures that the show had molded, William Shatner having portrayed the chief hero, imperfect, gruf, indelicate, but always fair.
There was an amazing chemistry about the original Startrek, fueled by a handful of well chosen people, William Shatner chief among them. There was a dire need at the time for such images, images that would fly in the face of the times.
But I digress. Here is my opinion of William Shatner' ability as an actor.
The BEST THING I EVER SAW WILLIAM EVER DO was The Andersonville Trial. There he gave his all. There he acted without constraints. There he was maginificent. There he performed unmatched, unparalelled, unfetered.
William Shatner is as much a part of my life as any icon I can think of.
Why not?
He is, after all, a daisy.
I thank him for his LIFETIME OF ACHIEVEMENT.
To put it another way, I thank him for his lifetime of Being There.
I am a loyal friend of William Shatner. Please let him know if the occasion arises.
