From a friend of mine who lives up in Middletown NY. He's big into cat rescue, and while at the vets with one of his rescues this morning, he met this cute little Shi'tzu running around the office.
Seems that the dog was dropped off on the vets steps in a box, and was so matted and dirty that they weren't sure what it was until they bathed and shaved it. That's when they found that the poor thing only had half of it's front leg. Seems that she was born that way. She's housebroken, is about 2 years old, has a great personality, and needs a good home. Except for the neglect, she's in perfect health. So John called me immediately.
I'd told everyone that we were looking for a friend for Mel, so his first thought was us. I tried calling the Dr. to find out more, but he's on farm calls today, so waiting to hear back.
Even though I like small dogs, I never considered myself with a cutsie little dog with bows and all, but the wife and kids are already planning....
Seems like we may have a new family member real soon....God works in mysterious ways. |

Perhaps you prefer a 'macho' dog for the family but I have a feeling that she'll be a right 'fit' for them. |

At the earliest, she won't be here until next weekend. You bet there'll be pics. John told me she's black & white, and very shaved at this point. They had to get rid of the matting and dirt.
Going to need help giving her a name too....
Looking forward to it, if everything works out.
I'm hoping. |

I am glad that someone dropped the little lady off at the vets and not just dump her on the streets somewhere.
I hope you get her and if the girls haven't named her before you post a pic, we would be glad to help with name suggestions. |

Some good news today. Spoke with a woman named Terry who works at the vets and has been keeping this little dog for the past few weeks. We had a long conversation, and the little girl will be here this coming Friday. As long as Mel approves of her, which I don't think will be a problem, we'll be adopting her. As soon as I get pics I'll post.
I have to call Terry back tomorrow night, and I'm going to ask if she can forward a pic. If yes, I'll post it. |

| I submit Chancée as a name choice. It's French Canadian chic and it means lucky. |

Whatever name you and the family pick for the little lady, I'm sure she wouldn't mind. |

There are no real vulgarities in French other than maybe "merde" which is shit.
The French use church icons as curses and so as to not offend against the church, they bastardize the words.
i.e. Tabernacle becomes tabernoosh. The chalice "calice" is pronounced in many ways... popular would be KahLize... etc.
Sacre Coeur... "Sacred Heart" is often changed to Sacre Bleue...
A good French swear will combine a few in a row...
Patriots is what the Quebec separatists refer to themselves.
French in Quebec has deteriorated into a sort of "joual" which makes people from France cringe.
Hysterically, the Quebec government has a branch called "L'Office de la Protection de la lange français. The OLF has nothing better to do than persecute business people ( English) and find them for various infractions.
for your amusement and my dismay... read these sites for eyebrow raising information:

HEY want TWO?...or Can anybody help with a HOME?...This is a friend who has to Move and all the places are saying NO PETS now.....
http://baltimore.craigslist.org/pet/2575737692.html
She is saying $50 so as not to get someone who would hurt her or a LAB Acquisition person, if you are serious and tell her you're a friend of mine...it won't cost anything. |

Let me ask around.
My sister's family just lost their lab, maybe they'd be interested.
So sad all these animals are left standing.....
As for our little girl, she'll be here sometime Friday. I called the vet that has been treating her, and he assured me she's good to go home. It was funny, he said the entire office knew her last day was Friday, like she was an office employee......made me laugh. But we'll keep them updated on her progress.
As soon as I get a pic, I'll post it. |

Good to hear CaptJTK that she is coming home to you guys tomorrow....after all the crap you and your whole state have gone through you deserve a bit of happiness!!
BTW, I got some muslin fabric to make a "trial" coat with for her, and when I mail it off next week, let me know how it fits her and also Mel....if it's too short or too long , too wide or too narrow let me know and I'll make the adjustments.
