First, I want to thank you all for your feedback and suggestions on the products you'd like to see in the WilliamShatner.com store. Cassidy Chick started a message board thread about a movie I was in called "Free Enterprise." As a mater of fact so many others, like Strlslvr and Sdcarnes, liked it so much we were convinced we should make the DVD available in our store. Well, we worked very hard to make that happen and I believe we'll be able to announce its availability soon -- and at a great price.  |

Cassidy Chick started a message board thread about a movie I was in called "Free Enterprise." Well, we worked very hard to make that happen and I believe we'll be able to announce its availability soon -- and at a great price.
Many of you have purchased and read my book "Get a Life!" and I'm glad to be able to share this work with you, as it was truly a work of passion for me.
My idea to write the book came after I had been appearing in many conventions over the years. Usually, I would arrive in town, perform at the convention, then leave to get back home. This might sound strange to you, but it didn't really occur to me to think too much about who was in the audience. I knew they were Star Trek fans, but more than that I really didn't give it much thought.
Then one day the light bulb went off: who are these people? So I approached the publisher and broached the idea of doing a book about the people that frequent the conventions. That began a year's work of interviewing people who came to the conventions and getting their stories.
After I had interviewed a great many people, I began to collect information. I discovered an arc of knowledge: I came to understand that the audience was there to see each other every bit as much as to see the personalities. Upon that discovery, the book became literally life changing for me. The fans became multi-dimensional figures, obviously having a larger interest in their interactions with each other than with the convention itself! So I was very glad to have written the book, not only for the people I met, but for the knowledge I discovered.
That knowledge helps me even to this day. I think a large part of why I find this site so engaging is because I am truly interested in finding out who the fans are, what their interests are, and what else they like to do. I know I've said it before, but the fact that we can all communicate online is so remarkable to me! I am proud to say that "Get a Life!" was the first step in what has turned out to be a wonderful communication between me and all of you.
